I bought a new Asus N76VM ([...]) (Dimensions height x width x depth (in mm): 35 x 415 x 280) and wanted to buy a protection for this. And I preferred a tight-fitting sleeve or sleeve before a pocket, since I already have other bags for this purpose.
It was important to me, clingy and protective material, especially to shocks and not only against moisture and dirt.
Less important were me additional pockets, shoulder strap, price, appearance.
I really went there so why buy a shell that sits well against knocks and (etc.) protects.
But since you never know if the sleeve fits really well or if the notebook wobbles or does not fit in, I ordered to test them and pick out the best one for my notebook many sheaths.
Below I will show all 11 tests for each interested compile. But you can also just scroll directly to the test for this specimen here if any of the rest do not care.
Acer Notebook Case Traveller XL 43,9cm (17.3 inch)
Good thickness of the material on the surfaces. The edges are on all sides except to the top (the zipper) and well padded. Moderate impacts can thus be held safely, the bag can only open up so the Norebook must be inserted. My laptop fit in without any problems and slips minimal rum. An extra strap keeps the notebook in place. The carrying straps are practical and look good. Overall, the bag is well made. The material makes an unpleasant-artificial nylon impression. A carrying strap is included. Nothing fancy but functional. A better padding of the strap would be desirable. The pocket on the outside is a nice size so that everything should fit in important. The zipper runs well and is delimited with a tab to the notebook. In addition, you could close the zipper by an additional lock.
A total of 22 very fine.

Crumpler TG17W-011 The Gimp Laptop Case 43.2 cm (17 inch) silver
A rather thin shell which protects against very low maximum impact. You can open up completely. My notebook fits unfortunately purely not even close.
The shell looks good but to me playfully.
The zipper runs well and is protected to the notebook out. The shell looks good but is processed only mediocre. Inside, some very hard yarns are available from which could scratch the notebook. There are no pockets.
For 24.5 below the average.

Slappa Ballistix P-Tac Sleeve 17 Stealth Laptop Sleeve (SLSV110)
Protects against medium shocks. The upholstery is even better through sewn leather in some places. It would have been if this had leather sewn consistently beautiful. My laptop does not fit into just so. The back pocket is big enough for everything necessary. The shell is very well made. The zips run well and are delimited by the notebook toward substance. The envelope can only be upwards and very little still open on both sides.
For 42 I would have expected more but compared to most cheaper it is well worth the yellow.

DICOTA SmartSkin from 40.64 to 43.9 cm for 16 to 17.3 inch notebooks - Neoprene Sleeve-black front zippered pocket for accessories
My laptop fits in very well and wobbles only slightly. The envelope can only be opened up. The zipper runs well and is protected to the notebook out. The sleeve looks very good and is also well finished. The two carrying handles are practical and stable. The bag is a good size. Unfortunately, the shell is very thin and protects probably only very slightly from shocks.
But very stylish, practical and well made for 23rd

Belkin Messenger Bag for notebooks up to 43.2 cm (17 inches)
The notebook fits just so pure. But because it slips and not rum. It is rather a pocket and it can be up and almost completely open on the sides. It is upholstered fantastic and securely holds even harsh shocks from. There are plenty of large pockets in the really everything should fit in. Very good quality seams and zippers. The sewn Henkel and the strap are practical and ergonomic. Also I really like the look: classy, restrained but with a few accents.
For only 25 euros a very good choice.

Built E-WS17-BLK Laptop Sleeve, 17 Inch Plus, black
My laptop fits in perfectly and thus slips no piece. The zipper runs well and can only be opened up, but is not as well defined for notebook out. The upholstery is mediocre and provides reliable protection against some shocks. The material in plain black and neoprene look is well made and like it a lot. There are no pockets.
A total of 25 good shell.

Elegant MacBook Pro 17.4 "Sleeve" Deluxe "Felt - Noble notebook sleeve 15.6 to 17" (41cm to width), 5mm thick
From noble because it makes me the impression of a felt mat. My laptop does not fit just so pure. The build quality is good but the material is thin and therefore not suitable as impact protection. As I said, the appearance is terrible. They also can not close properly but only to fold and is therefore also susceptible to moisture and dirt. No additional bags or carrying devices.
A total of 25 absolutely unsatisfactory.
1 star (zero star would be if one could)
Digittrade LS131-17 DeeJay Designer Neoprene Notebook Sleeve up to 43.9 cm (17.3-inch)
This is now the first covering the actual absolute penetrant, chemically stinks. The thin neoprene material looks good and is quite thin. It is my laptop to good, protects well but only slightly from shocks. The zipper runs well but otherwise the processing is only medium. There are outside of the material unsightly bruising. There are two handles available where you could attach a strap, which is however not provided.
For 21 this bag is if it stops sometime to smell quite ok.

Targus Carry Case / Laptop Skin - 43.9 cm (17.3-inch)
My Asus fits in with ease, the shell is so large certainly a number larger notebooks would still fit in. This is shaking the notebook. The Sleeve smells slightly chemically. The zipper runs haltingly. The visuals are average to good but the material is too thin and hardly protects against shocks. No pockets and no support devices.
For 13.5 This case is quite ok.

The North Face Laptop Case Laptop Case TNF 17 inch black
This pure Sleeve has no extra carrying devices and is for my Asus unfortunately a bit too small. The notebook is well in front of the zipper that rises upward and to one side and clean running, protected. The material is too thin to make a trusting protective impression and acts as cheap Lederimmitat. Since even affects the simple matte black cheap. The shell does not smell chemically so strong so that it is possible that this smell evaporates after a while. For 25 no purchase recommendation can be given here.

Dakine Laptop Case, Fremont, L, 3 Liters, 8160115
And actually reached me last Sleeve still one which has specially reinforced walls. And my laptop does not fit just so pure. The zipper goes up and to one side, is the notebook practically did not, for the purpose of scratch protection, shielded but runs fantastic. Except at the points where the zipper is the sheath is comfortably upholstered thick on all sides. The fabric looks artificial but this is made up for by the beautiful patterns. The Karooptik looks chic, but is quite playful and probably less suitable for conferences.
For 25 a very good cover without serious flaws.

11 cases have rich in order to find a suitable specimen. Especially since my apartment is set full of boxes. If you are wondering about the severity of my review, so please pay attention to which characteristics was decisive for me, and that for me 5 stars do not mean without flaws but excellent.
I thought to myself that if I ever do bother to spare you the same work with this test, or at least facilitate, can.
I hope you find the perfect specimen that corresponds to your wishes.
PS .: For me it decided in the end between the Acer, the Built-pocket and Belkin.
The Belkin is really worth the money! A real recommendation. However, I would rather a Slim sleeve which I can pack into the laptop compartment of my backpacks including laptop and for the Belkin Bag is too broad.
The Acer bag / envelope is much slimmer but still slightly too wide. The look seems to me not as good but all the rest is great.
In the Built envelope contrast my multimedia notebook fits perfectly pure, does not wobble and acts well protected, yet the whole package is still so slim that it fits into the laptop compartment of my backpack.
So I decided for the Built-shell.
