Advertising-an introduction

The word ‘advertising’ is derived from the Latin word “adverto “, literally it means turning people’s attention to a specific thing. It is an attempt to popularize a specific product or service. It is also a method of persuading the buyers to purchase more of a particular product or service than other product or service. Advertising passes a message to the buyer about the arrival of a product, its physical properties and also functional features. For example, producers of fans, TVs, toothpastes, cigarettes etc., spend much on advertising to maintain present sales levels and for the development of future business. Benjamin Franklin is regarded as the “Father of Advertising”. Many experts gave the definition for the advertising. According to John F. Kennedy, “Advertising is salesmanship in print”. The American Marketing Association defines advertising as “any paid form of non-personal presentation and promotion of ideas, goods, or services by an identified sponsor”.
