I own several Humax receiver (iCord +, PVR 1000), the Sky-variant, a LG All-in-One BR player with satellite receiver, a Samsung BR player with satellite receiver and multiple TVs with hybrid receivers (Panasonic, LG, Telefunken, Medion) and therefore have good opportunities for comparison.
This receiver I operate in an apartment in Hamburg city center on a cable network, ie in DVB-C mode.
So the image and quality of reception of DVB-T and DVB-S2 tuner part I can not judge.
Installation and commissioning were quick and easy to without having to throw even a glance in a manual,
since the device was set to "German".
Networking and software update problems.
the smart card reader I could not try.
The channel progamming is a bit cumbersome, but still significantly better than for example with my LG receivers.
This hybrid-receiver is truly incredible.
Picture and sound are convincing, the switching satisfactory.
But what surprised the little box really, are the other technical options:
The least important first:
There are three games on board: Tetris, Snake and Othello,
Contrary to the description can be a connected USB stick format with NTFS and use.
A new 2.5-inch USB 3.0 1TB Intenso hard drive I could not get up and running,
a six-month-old Seagate Backup Plus ran at first attempt.
It is not necessary to format the attached disk in addition,
The OptimusS creates its own directory "ALIDVRS2", in which he stores the recordings.
The directories start with the date and time of recording, followed by the station name and where applicable the words "HD".
The directories to find each one about 65kB large file "000.dvr", a TS file and a "info3.dvr" with approximately 32 kB.
The TS file contains the actual recording and can be played directly on the PC, eg with VLC player.
That is also perhaps the greatest value of this small box and the reason
why my Humax must give way in the living room in the next few days another Optimus.
The built-in media player and great
the browser for a receiver large class,
The departments of the browser:
1. File List / MP3
2. FileList / Image
3. File List / Video
4. File List / Record
5. FileList / Software
6. File List / All
Further Functions:
- FTP
- Weather Forecast
- RSS Reader
- Net Media with
- Youtube: (fast and tidy)
- Web TV (bellebige URLs entries)
- Google Maps (surprisingly quickly)
I've tried with some file formats the media player:
Works beautifully, even with fast forward and rewind (max. 24 x)
More generally, does the remote control quickly, responds quickly
requires no target device :) and is reasonably intuitive.
The included IR extender also allows a very alternative positioning of the receiver.
Finally, I would like to highlight,
that the search function in practically all menus is available (also at the stations)
and with the on-screen full keyboard works just fine.
The only open point on the wish list:
The OptimusS should also serve as a media server.
Conclusion:
Even the ability to archive recordings easily and further processing on the PC brought this little box 5 star,
the rest is would be enough for four stars,
the value for money would justify even 7 star.
