A beautiful historical epic with lots of history and a lot of romance.

After The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End, I took a vacation to immerse myself in this new historical fresco of more than 1,000 pages, the small print. I found this novel less "novel" than the previous two. The characters are still as lovable, extremely well described and they make you pass a multitude of feelings, but sometimes, historical and political details are a little pushed and are missing a beat to the novel.

By cons, it is clear that I learned a lot about the gear that led to this war, the interweaving of different countries during and towards the end of the conflict. It was really interesting. For once, this historical novel is sometimes a little too much and not enough historical novel. I often waited with great anticipation Billy the minor back, his sister Ethel domestic Maud rebellious nobility, Grigori and Lev, the two orphaned Russian brothers ...

Another disappointment is not having met with French characters. They are English, German or Russian, but he lacked a bit of France: we only pass through. It's a shame.

But I nevertheless expect the suite with great impatience !!!
