A beautiful love story, despite everything

The newlyweds (Paperback)

Customer Review

This is my first book purchased for e-book, and my faith is very nice to read a novel that way. I was however disappointed with the lack of "dictionary" based on the many Bengali words scattered throughout the text.
In the novel itself: it is the story of George, US citizen, and Amina, bengladaise. They meet by internet, delight, he comes to see the Bangla Desh and marriage proposal to his parents. They accept and Amina came to Rochester, where they marry civilly for Amina could stay in the United States. He then promises to be a Muslim marriage but things will not go as planned. All goes well at first but gradually the cultural differences will be felt and will undermine the relationship, despite the love between the two protagonists. The story is made of very delicate way. The strength of the author is to show us the two cultures in a non-adversarial manner, in the details of a life together, people who love life in the complexities of every day. It's very well done and very respectful. Part of the story is happening in Bangla Desh I find is the most successful. In addition, the reader is kept in suspense until the end, no one knows how this story will end and I will not unveil course.
