Two voices for this novel about the rise of Nazism and forced emigration to his opponents in the first hour, that of Ernst Toller, pacifist writer after its voluntary commitment during the First World War and that of Ruth Becker (whose real Blatt name) including Anna Funder was a friend and she makes the courage, sensitivity and also guilt, that of having loved a beautiful anti-Nazi journalist but doubtful and superficial character in relation to the political commitment of those who 'entourent.Les crossed memories of Toller and Ruth give life to the central character of the novel, that of Dora Fabian and Anna Funder actually a beautiful woman portrait of emancipated love, and who will fight to the end to his convictions and hope to see the birth of another Germany '. Intelligence, psychological depth, solid historical references and beautiful writing makes this novel one of the most beautiful I have read recently.
