With Margo Roth Spiegelman Quentin had long nothing more unless they emulate and revere it from afar. When she climbs into his room one night and asks him to play the driver for her little revenge tour, he follows her. Experience a night of fun and adventure, but the next morning Margo has disappeared. Quentin sets out to search for her, because it seems as if she had deposited notes for him. He follows the breadcrumbs and goes in search of Margo and especially to himself.
Writing style
John Green I count among my favorite authors. Not because his books feature a particularly exciting plot, but mainly because he has a great writing style. I love the picturesque, flowery about it. Especially its kind, so nice to take things into words is a gift that has not every author. That's why I always need a lot of sticky notes for his books.
My Opinion
I have intentionally let sink first a few days the book because my review would otherwise probably not have been so good. Paper Towns is not my first book by him. I have already The Fault in Our Stars and Looking for Alaska read which gave me both liked. Paper Towns, however, has given me the feeling that you have just set the characters only in a different setting and I was every now and then on the verge cancel the book because I just assumed from the same end.
I am glad that I finished Paper Towns, because despite the proximity to Miles and Alaska, the two protagonists Quentin and Margo are somehow different. Especially Quentin travel I liked really good in retrospect, because it works on so many levels. He goes on an expedition, he takes a road trip to retrieve Margo, but above all he goes in search of himself. He sets out on a journey, at the end he comes out changed and grown.
The tripartite plot was okay, especially the first and last part of convinced me. The main section, so the search for clues seemed to me long, long, simply because far too little has happened. I liked the idea with the instructions, the instructions have pleased me well, but it would have to be either more or the book would calm fifty pages may have less and it would still all have been possible.
Accordingly, I felt not the book as a particularly exciting, but that's also not the most prominent feature of his books. I think if you have not read any other John Green Book, Paper Towns is a great book to start. Especially for young readers, it's great, because growing up and the responsibility that goes with it, play a major role. His books are thoughtfully and slowly, but why still not bad.
Conclusion
Paper Towns could not so much convincing, like the other books I have already read by John Green me. Used by the style of writing well, the characters but unfortunately already accustomed. It remains to me above all a question: Why use such a talented writer like John Green his characters in two books? Why did he invent the world is not new?
