We may not like The Sun of Scortas. It is fast, does not dwell on the characters. We spend time on them as it does on us. We see them, we understand that they are struggling, they are fighting against time, against their future. And that sun, so devious, so powerful, the floor plate, wiped their shadows and makes them naked. That is the beauty of this book, show these characters in their own weakness, watching from the point of view of the sun, shining in Puglia, where the rain never comes. The sun out, that crazy, that explodes.
I liked this book, I liked the way that Laurent Gaudé writing, and how narrowly he explores human destiny, the tragic story of a family.
