The creator of Sword Art Online appears to them to explain the rules: to return to reality, it will survive and beat the boss of each level ... until the last. Death in the game means death in the real world.
The first chapters are mainly explanatory. It describes the operation of the game for us to imagine the universe. Very quickly, the action is there and Kirito of life, our hero, is dangerous. Sword Art Online is a powerful and rhythmic novel, with a fantasy universe / very valuable medieval although still pretty basic. Personally, I let myself take the game and I often had the feeling to evolve, too, in the Aincrad; the flying fortress where the party takes place.
Kirito is a hero we love to follow. In the real world, he was a shy teenager and withdrawn. In Aincrad is a warrior, one of the most powerful in the game even if he prefers to play solo. Kirito was used to living in the game and he has only half wanted to go home. However, it continues to go up levels and refuses to give up. His relationship with Asuna, a young girl as beautiful as talented with a sword is very cute and makes a nice blue flower key to the novel. Although it is a kind "shounen" not "shoujo", feelings of heroes have a significant impact on their evolution and history. This is particularly why Sword Art Online, in my opinion, as a public joint. Asuna is part of the most powerful guilds: the "Knight of the blood" until it makes a "pause" to travel to the side of Kirito. Teenagers will fall in love and their union will be their strength. Fighting together, they become much more powerful than separately.
The first part of the novel is told from the point of view of Kirito. This is the one I preferred because it allows us to really know our heroes. The second part goes back, to focus on other characters, most secondary and bring a different perspective on the story. These new enrich our knowledge about the game and the past of the protagonists but I admit that I would rather have the rest of the story, Volume 1 ending in a completely steep!
Finally, Sword art online was a good read and I read later without hesitation! The combo universe videogames / fantasy-medieval, action heroes and I liked. The license has a fan again!
