I read the first book by this author. Stroll along the boulevards of Paris, a shop offers used books and my eyes fell on this title, this author I had promised myself to read. From the first lines the atmosphere is installed. I originally thought it was a highly inspired by the gothic novel, the moor, the fog, the dead and then suddenly just burst Riviera in the heart of pages, the sea, the sun, lightness and love shrouded in mystery. Back to Manderley with its marine side, the spray, the rose garden, the creek and the rain. Learning chatelaine of life, home, society life and Rebecca, elusive ghost from the grave Manderley regent of life. It was inevitable that the mystery thickens, the dead rise to the surface of the water for once and for all resolve the issue. Restore dignity, break the spell. This is where Du Maurier led me in the boat, I had envisioned another purpose, skillful novelist who takes the reader against foot. A great novel elements, water, air, earth and fire are present in every moment, despite burying secrets, despite the travesty of the truth, it seems that Rebecca could never disappear even if the end of the novel suggests purification and rebirth mystery remains. Hitchcock had to pounce on the book because it is a very Hitchcockian book, very emotional, a heavy atmosphere, a few lengths must say. This is not a page-turner, take his time, enjoy, revel in this style that could put off contemporary readers. Daphne du Maurier really worth reading. I put only 4, because two-thirds of the book I felt a small drop of interest that was quickly erased as the end precipitates the events. A very rich novel, which deserves a better review but there was so much to say.
