~ THE JOY OF TRACKBALL
A trackball is not used as a mouse. Here, your wrist constantly still and you move the cursor by rolling the ball with your thumb. This may require an adjustment period if you're a regular mouse, but once you tasted it it's hard to go back.
Indeed, the benefits are very significant:
- Space savings:
While the trackball may seem large, it is fixed and occupy less space on your desk. If you have very little space next to your keyboard, the trackball is a relevant solution. No more back and forth with the mouse. Just play with the inertia of the ball to move quickly from one end to the other of the screen!
- Increased comfort:
-> Because you do not request the day long wrist.
-> Because the handling of this model is relaxing. The trackball perfectly fits the shape of the hand. And above all, thanks to its rounded shape, your wrist is bent outwards, which is much less traumatic for the carpal tunnel.
- Increased accuracy:
It realizes quickly enough as regards horizontal movement. Sweep from side to side with the thumb is more natural than a top-down movement. An adjustment period is needed to master the vertical displacements or copy and paste .. but then it's the best!
- Do not completely messes up the habits of the user of a mouse:
Contrary to a model where the ball is between the index and middle finger, thumb trackball is a model that retains some aspects of a traditional mouse.
Thus, the left click is always done with the index, right-click with your middle finger. And of course, there is a knob between the index and middle fingers.
~ SPECIAL INTEREST:
- Two additional buttons:
To the left of the index, it is a very nice addition compared to older models. By default, they correspond to the functions "next" and "previous" on Internet Explorer and Firefox, which facilitates navigation. But these buttons are configurable and you can assign the functions you want.
It is especially significant that these buttons are not yet widespread on trackballs thumb. However, we would have liked a few more buttons ...
- Wireless connection:
Especially useful if you use the trackball to multiple computers at home ... but not necessarily essential.
Given the size and especially the shape of the trackball, it does not slide easily into bags and prefer squatter office.
- Unifying Technology:
Interesting from the moment you have multiple compatible devices (keyboard, mouse). In this case, a single USB connector enough to use all these devices. One option that is extremely useful on a laptop that has only two or three USB ports.
~ OF CRITICISM?
Although experience is satisfactory, I still noticed a lack of inertia of the wheel.
This is a detail a bit annoying since this will slow down the scrolling of pages. For once, it is a pity that Logitech has not incorporated an adjustable knob (free or notched) as on most of his mouse.
Another criticism - or rather a statement - to the form of the mouse, not really suitable for lefties.
~ CONCLUSION:
Since I have this trackball, I move me more. The ease of use is real, after only a few days of adaptation. I do not really see myself returning to mice ... I prefer now to let my cats. ;-)
Note: A device installed and tested configurations of 4 (2 for Windows XP, Windows 7 2). Easy installation, since just plug the USB connector and to allow recognition devices. No problem statement.
