What follows are variations - and not in the form of pattern matches and the fact interwoven alternative play, but in the good old tree format. I must admit that I am this today unfortunately quite rare choice has pleasantly surprised finally one finds the critical variants so much faster.
The repertoire: in the "now-or-never" -Play Dembo are often times also two variants for Black, which is somewhat reminiscent of Watson's "Play the French". The choice of repertoire, however, is a matter of taste, such as clamping of foreign pre-chosen repertoire:
Against modern main line with 7th and 8th Sf3 Tb1 Dembo recommended with 9 ... b6 the favorite train Svidler's certainly a good plus less theory-heavy choice when the farmer profits on a2, which already Davies in "The Grunfeld Defence" met ,
7. Against Sf3 besides 8. Le3 follows 8 ... Qa5 9 Dd2 and now 9 ... OO. According to Dembo is 9 ... Sc6 an "equivalent alternative, the possibly even more than just compensation" promises, but is not analyzed at her. If you look sometimes just after the databases, then is also a much better statistic for 9. ... Sc6 over 9 ... OO. And the knight move to c6 is also the preferred choice of green field experts such as Kasparov, Svidler, Navara, Krasenkow and Sutovsky and is also recommended by Davies and Jansa. Although Dembo's analyzes seem to be quite versed, Black has in practice probably
complicated problems after 9 ... OO to solve than to 9. ... Sc6. Where the play with 9 ... Sc6 in my opinion easier to play for Black also, both to 10. Tb1 (of Dembo reported as critical, but according to the current state of theory perfectly okay for black) and after 10 Tc1 ,
The former and recently more frequently encountered Variant with 4 CD5: besides e4, Lc4, Sge2 and Le3 encountered Dembo with two play: 10 ... and 10 ... Bd7 Sa5, both more than okay to black from view seem to be. Too bad they however 10. h4 !? underestimated and as a refutation - also as already many writers before her - the old game Naranja-Portisch 1970 cited, which was won by Black pretty. That White in the game Li Shilong-van der Weide in 2006 with a substantial
Improvement came up, which provides the black concept in question, the reader thus does not experience. However, it should be noted that there are also against 10. h4 an appropriate solution ...
Against the Russian system with 4th and 5th Sf3 Db3 to Dembo goes in the footsteps of GM and philosopher Jonathan Rowson by unpacks 7. ... Sc6. This is certainly a reasonable choice for a repertoire book, the theory against its major variants 7. ... Na6, 7 ... a6 and 7 ... Lg4 it will limit greatly and also sets a bit on the element of surprise. Similarly good recommendations are the author against most other Abspiele, taking 4th Lg5 SE4 5. h4 !? overlooked, as it is proposed in the last SOS volumes.
Has slightly disappointed me your choice 4. Lf4 Bg7, 5. e3 OO which they justified by the fact that the Black farmer robbery 6. CD5 (?!): Sd5 :, 7. Sd5: Qd5 :, 8. LC7: due. 8 ... Na6, 9. La6: Dg2: must not fear. What certainly applies to the version with 4th and 5th Sf3 Lf4, in my opinion, after 4 and 5. e3 Lf4 wrong, because the endgame after the exchange of queens 10th Df3 Df3 :, 11. Sf3: ba6: Black is for quite not so easy to defend as it may "thanks" of the rotor pair to give the impression. The catching has to open a clear plan in the form of doubled black a-pawn, whereas it is the second player very difficult for the position with F6 and E7-E5 for the bishop pair to compensate for its static disadvantages. Black is in my experience a severe struggle before and draw a look at the databases and on current
GM games (eg Radjabov-Ivanchuk) confirms this. Who this is enough, okay.
In spite of two or three points of criticism, it is a good and current Repertoirbuch the Grünfeld. Yelena Dembo has re-analyzed and assessed old Abspiele what is reason enough for praise. To what extent it is thus correct, will show the future - maybe even in the form of lots of readers of her book ?! In addition, it represents clear their views on the various playback and presents their repertoire well and to the point. Unfortunately, you will feel not quite going that the book as a "Best of Adorjan, Rowson, Davies and Co." has cobbled together and not always taken the most reliable versions.
