I already had the predecessor, the Dell 3008WFP, long time in use and would like to compare, whether it is at the DELL U3011 (or 3011WFP) is a worthy successor now. This review is based only on my personal impressions and experiences. First I noticed the body of the U3011, which precipitates it significantly simpler than its predecessor. Instead of the dull and partially ruptured silver look on the monitor now exists black matte plastic. The stand served its purpose and has the huge panel a firm footing, better than its predecessor. The glass optics on base no longer exists. After switching on the U3011 me fell straight to the playful buttons for operating the OSD menu. The OSD menu could be just as well serve as its predecessor. Switching between the input channels is now even better, because you no longer need by switches through all channels before coming to actually correct channel. However, this has the disadvantage again that the monitor is in sleep mode only needs to be awakened a few seconds before the OSD menu can be operated. At the Anschlussfreudigkeit the U3011 has a total also little changed. A few "stale" connections have been made redundant and the CF card reader, I never needed anyway is gone. Instead, is added an additional HDMI port, which is already meaningful in view of the HDMI needs in these times. The U3011 is also rotatable, tiltable and adjustable in height and that in similar dimensions as its predecessor, which was important to me with such a large and heavy device. The U3011 is still significantly lighter than the 3008WFP and thus to maneuver more easily as an individual. The picture leaves absolutely the same impression as its predecessor. I sat a year, almost every day in front of the Dell 3008WFP and got used yet within minutes of the new U3011. It seemed to me as if I had the same panel are in a different case in front of me (which is likely to be almost as). The colors are just as strong and detailed reproduced as its predecessor. The illumination is also evenly. Also like its predecessor, it was to discover no dead pixels. The better response times do not leave a better impression than its predecessor. In the action shooters that I occasionally like to play, there was no perceptible difference by response times. He also brings back with similar weaknesses as its predecessor. The desktop monitor nunmal particularly optimized for a resolution of 2560x1600. Bring a bit lower resolutions like the 3008WFP an unpleasant blur with it. I need to connect to the other reviewers, and may include an operating noise of the monitor, albeit quietly, confirm. If one his ear to the back of the U3011 you can hear it clearly. Already at the Dell 3008WFP was this problem. For me it is not disturbing since it is barely noticeable! The successor is after the predecessor in my opinion nothing. The U3011 is good alike as the 3008WFP in all areas and is a good all-rounder without special skills, has also almost all the minor flaws. I use him accordingly in all areas: for occasional photo and video editing, look for's 3D modeling, for frequent programming, for occasional gaming's computer games, to movies and rarely watch TV via DVB-C receiver. The PS3 hung 'ne time on the monitor and this is good for the U3011 good. Something the U3011 his predecessor is still ahead and that its significantly lower heat generation. The 3008WFP I could use as a room heater. The price falls now significantly lower than at the time when you purchase the 3008WFP. While one has stretched even 1400 Euros for the 3008WFP before long, you get the 3008WFP or the U3011 today for a street price of around 1,100 euros (now less than 1000 euros!). Certainly still not an easy investment, but the price-performance ratio of the 30-inch model probably unbeatable. The U3011 is like its predecessor by no means perfect! But he has adapted to recent prior art. This, however, is doing better and more powerful displays of PA301W NEC, but I can not afford it. Otherwise, one should perhaps not but think about whether it is not enough, a 27-inch monitor, because since the product range is on good monitors slightly wider and for about the same price you can find because maybe even better monitors.
Addendum:
The problems with the color fidelity in graphics, I can confirm. Obtained on other monitors a different color impression, if you do not set the correct color profile. One should not use the Dell monitor (in image editing programs can change this setting). Windows also provides after installing the Driver for the Dell color profile! Under Windows7, it can be by right-clicking on the desktop in Screen resolution Advanced settings Color Management Reset again. I use instead of "DELL U3011 Color Profile" the "sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile" as the default. One should also look under the "Advanced" tab in the Color Management if the profile has been set for the machine as standard and not by Dell. After that the colors should match again, as long as applications do not use their own profiles, but that is of course not at the monitor. That was even with the predecessor, the 3011WFP, to complain about already. Granted, because of good color impression when Dell Monitor benefits then nothing, but that should not be the problem for this setting.
Review at a glance:
+ Rich colors + High sharpness (in Dektopbereich with optimum resolution) + Minor response times + Slight delay of the input signal (barely noticeable) + Homogeneous illumination / color over the entire screen + Many connection possibilities + Easy to use OSD menu + Price affordable +/- Low operating noise yes, but only when absolutely quiet location audible - Slight blur (at lower desktop resolutions) - High power consumption (even in standby mode) - No absolute black colors - Photo editing: Setting absolutely correct color profile
