The Tamron is a good choice for those who do not meet the 18-55 IS and whose budget is limited. Given its price this goal provides a good image quality level. At full aperture, the images lack homogeneity, sharpness is very correct but insufficient in the center to the edges. However as soon as it closes a little dive center is quite impressive and satisfying at the edges. The distortion is quite marked yoy but fades quickly then. It is anyway easily correctable in post processing.
Construction is serious (much better than the 18-55 IS) and the visor comes with. AF is itself rather reliable but slow and very noisy.
Finally, despite its few flaws that Tamron is a big deal, much more than the basic qualitative transtandard and much cheaper than the famous 17-55 f / 2.8 Canon.
