But they have left France to find husbands in this colony where few women survive and two of them will awaken to a whole new feeling, a new love. We will leave it because this book is obviously the first of a series, and after reading it, one can only wait impatiently for the release of the second volume.
However, it is better not to be a fierce anti-clerical, unconditional atheist if you will enjoy this novel. Indeed, the main heroine, Iris, will find faith on the boat that leads to the Americas, and the glorification of Catholicism that slips into many pages may upset some readers. For my part, I nevertheless supported some regretted.
It remains that "A promise land" reminded me of some of the 19th century novels I read when I was thirteen or fourteen with everything they had wonderful and exciting.
