Erri Lucca wrote this little essay within the scope of a likely angry, or rather a real outrage: that of having been indicted by a Turin court against the safety of the state, because he had written in an article published on the Internet, the need to "sabotage" the project of high-speed rail link between Lyon and Turin. This project is for him the example of major projects under laid by bribes and political-economic interests not disreputable, while the need is zero, the population does not want and above all there is a risk major breakthrough related to asbestos mines. The author explains the meaning of the Italian word "sabotage" and how it has been interpreted by judges caricature. He also explained, and that is all the interest of this book presciently, that the artist, by the pen, words, or draw, does not cause violence, is not reprehensible acts player, but is in his role as an artist or intellectual, in a stirring social function of ideas, transgression of reality to better reveal it, so awareness, sometimes as often indignation would have said S. Hessel . A few weeks after Charlie Hebdo, one understands in these few lines what to say "otherwise speech" is an absolute act of democratic freedom and deny that the artist is to enter into a form of totalitarianism. To date the outcome is not known, the court will consider on Jan. 28 the indictment file. It will then be interesting to see how the Italian democracy and its legal system will appreciate the situation. In summary, this short book is a very enlightening manifesto about a case, that of the author, on freedom of expression. I highly recommend for the lesson of democracy and philosophy.
