The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Nintendo Selects (Video Game)

Customer Review

Like many other games of the Wii, Twilight Princess (TP) have been slow to join a collection "budget".
Released in 2006, it remains an essential game on Wii, just like Super Mario Galaxy and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

* Place the game in the saga:
For those who do not know the license, I recall that these are action / adventure game in which Link (your character), a young swordsman pure heart, must save Princess Zelda.
"A bit like Mario?" I hear you say? No, it is not at all the same, since Mario (the man) is a plumber Mario and since (the game) is a game of platform. Besides Zelda bathes in a very heroic-fantasy atmosphere while Mario is a champignonesque trip. Nothing to do so, children!

I said that TP is my first 3D Zelda and I tested all 2D Zelda.
I find that the license is ready pretty well to 3D. 3D greatly facilitates the immersion in the game is controlled not more Link. LINK IS ON!
Otherwise, the foundations of the series are respected and the game alternates classical phases "dungeons" / "exploration". I have not been disturbed (good or bad) on playability.

* Scenario / atmosphere:
You will need to free the world of light and the twilight of the harmful influence of a terrible enemy. And as I do not like to rob, I will say no more.
So I'll just tell you about the atmosphere of the game. And then the developers were pretty well inspired. Hats off to the passages where you play as an animal (like Okami) and very epic passages, like the joust on the deck of Ordinn or fighting against pseudo-Balrog. We feel that some team members have more than enjoyed the films of the "Lord of the Rings" or "Narnia". There there a good synthesis of the atmosphere "Zelda", "Miyazaki" and "Tolkien".
TP is a game that does not hide its many sources of inspiration. If it does not revolutionize the genre "heroic fantasy", he transcends it perfectly!

* Graphics:
The realistic graphics contrast clearly with the cell-shading of The Wind Waker and DS components. The artistic choice is entirely consistent when one considers the scenario "darker". Therefore, TP is probably the most "adult" of the series component.
I would emphasize the amazing work that has been achieved at the level of lighting and management of the day / night cycle and weather. I do not know many Wii games that rival TP in this area. Only Monster Hunter 3 is a top contender.

* Gameplay:
The gameplay to the Wii saves immersion that we lose efficiency. It is not so much related to the fact that agitates the wiimote to give a sword, but rather with the fact that we must point the screen to use archery, slingshot or grapple (hence latency). Another little problem, the inability to manually manage the camera with a stick (the view must be refocused regularly with Z). Well, it is not necessarily disadvantageous, but it requires adaptation.
Incidentally, while I appreciate the gameplay to the wiimote, I find it regrettable that Nintendo did not include the ability to play the Gamecube controller. Indeed, if you want to play the conventional way, you are forced to buy the game in its Gamecube versions. Not very nice! : - /

* Lifetime:
80 hours counter, in no apparent hurry. This is more than satisfactory! Dungeons are large enough to keep you going between 3 and 5 hours each. If the pace of the game is a bit soft at first, it will keep you in suspense after the first 20 hours. I chained the last 4 of 4 successive dungeons evening and it was happiness!

* Difficulties:
We must separate the two elements that are the whole point of the game. As for the puzzles in the dungeons, they are actually quite classic but require minimal reflection. However, there is nothing insurmountable and the difficulty is much lower compared to Spirit Tracks (much more demanding and much more innovative in terms of its puzzles)
Regarding the fighting, we must recognize that the difficulty is low. With the exception of some fights in the first 2 dungeons and in the last levels of the cave of the ordeal, you will rarely be held in check. Even fighting against the boss is not very hard.
The problem is mainly due to the excessive generosity of the game with life. You have so many points and so many opportunities to recover it takes almost on purpose to see the "Game Over" screen. This is not a problem unique to TP and that it concerns all the episodes I've played (except Zelda I and II).
You'll understand that the challenge is based more on solving small puzzles than fighting.

Verdict:

Despite the release in late 2011 of Skyward Sword (the next Zelda on Wii!), Twilight Princess has lost none of its charm. This is not a revolutionary Zelda, but it had an excellent synthesis of the heroic-fantasy saga of Nintendo.
