I was really impressed as Maupassant reveals his talent in this book, probably one of the best he has written. He is a man but he managed to get into the mind of a woman, surprisingly. It identifies completely with Jeanne, naive love, woman scorned and abandoned mother. A must read even if you have a romantic soul as you enter immediately into the story and descriptions of Maupassant and his characters are exquisite!
