It is clear that one can not expect a folk-rock in the classic sense here. Acoustic guitars, banjo and bass are nowhere, instead there is this time electric guitars, electric sounds and fast rhythms.
You can tell, despite all the changes, that there simply still stuck Marcus Mumford and his boys behind. The falls in some songs more, in some slightly less. Cold Arms for example, recalls Marcus Mumford's solo project before Mumford & Sons (eg: Wretched Man), Only Love gives itself only as a very quiet song and then explodes at the end downright and traditional songs Snake Eyes and The Wolf are simply great, Catchy rock songs. In between, there's something ... we call it filler (Monster, Broad-shouldered Beasts) which do not give me a lot and some typical rock anthems (Ditmas, Just Smoke).
Would be negative to mention that some numbers but little sound the same. Not "Wow, that's still the same song" equal, but simply similar.
Addendum: After repeated Listen, I have to say that to the album even better than like Babel. Babylon has always been an attempt to build on the debut, without even creating ever for me. That's why it was probably exactly the right step to tackle a different direction and to move away from this comparison compulsion (which one sees quite well here in the reviews).
