A nostalgic disc with lightweight new influences

"No Pier Pressure" begins where the last Beach Boys epic "That`s Why God Made The Radio" has stopped:
The opener "This Beautiful Day" ties in with its magnificent West Coast Autumn melancholy to the songs resolved the aforementioned plate.
But already the next song "Runaway Dancer" shows with its modern touches and the lightweight plastic Beat that Wilson (or, ahem, his advisors) want to dig not only in its own juice.

It is striking that the same seven titles were recorded as duets with other artists. These are the songs that have more of a (moderate!) More contemporary production. But do not worry! You get to hear any dance-pop here; "Runaway Dancer" is with his beats already the largest outlier among the cooperations! Otherwise, the artists add, similar to "Gettin In Over My Head", neatly in the typical Brian Wilson songs a. Kacey Musgraves fits example as chalk and cheese to the cheery singalong track "Guess You Had To Be There".
Title with Al Jardine, and David Marks, I have expressly not counted as partnerships "with other", the two belong to me, of course, fully as normal it!
I wish to highlight the instrumental "Half Moon Bay", in the Mark Isham with his trumpet sound conjures up an incredibly great atmosphere. If you can act the song, you have correctly described the scene in the title in mind, and I say this even though I now am not the great romantics !!!

The pure Brian Wilson songs offer what one knows and what one loves when one loves his music. Wonderful melodies in deeply touching melancholy. They say No Pier Pressure was initially as a new Beach Boys album planned and you can hear above all the song "Whatever Happened," of course "The Right Time" "Something Quiet" Tell Me Why "(with Al Jardine, madness! ) or even "I'm Feeling Sad" at.
The majority of the songs are held in a peaceful, moderate pace, which is probably due to the age Brian Wilson. Only in "Don`t Worry," "Saturday Night" or "Sail Away" (a small "Yellow River" clone, but only slightly) higher impact rate is offered, these songs sound, also of rhythm, as if they were from been transferred to the late seventies.
At the end of the regular tracklist waiting with "The Last Song" still the supermelancholische swan song, similar to the last Beach Boys album. You can tell that Brian Wilson like to think more and more that this could be times been the last plate again ....

I have the deluxe edition, which still (again) as a bonus two fine versions of "In The Back Of My Mind" and "Love and Mercy".

"Imagination" was so far my absolute favorite, because it is a "pure" Brian Wilson album with great songs. "No Pier Pressure" has absolutely the stuff to come all the way forward, but that will only show the time.
The new disc throwing nothing to, does not invent anything new, but I think it provides exactly what we as fans can still expect and want to have Brian. And also the high number of 18 songs, normally a dangerous quality history, harms not here absolutely. The album flies by and you feel entertained.
