This book I bought by chance because I like to read detective stories and appreciate very much if they are located in different corners of the world (I am thinking for example of Batya Gur, Tony Hillerman, A. McCall Smith, ...). No sooner had I pitched Bangkok 8 and read the first two pages I was catapulted into a completely different world. With breathtaking speed, the story unfolded about the only incorruptible cop in Bangkok, however, dates back to the red light district and not a moral crusader. Nevertheless, a devout Buddhist. As these opposites unite in the best way and at the same time a refined murder of an American whose death various stakeholders on the plan calls, is elucidated in the bustling Thai capital, is more than worth reading. The entire book is like a roller coaster ride that confronts the reader with some completely contrasting mindsets of the South East Asians. At the same time the exotic venue for more local flavor than any guide provides. For this, the Plott is well thought out and the plot unfolds constantly and unpredictably. Short & Sweet: I was entranced and recommend it to anyone warmest who wants to get involved in a trip to a really different world.
