After a few seconds Mendelssohn (4th Symphony, 4th movement, recording Masur with the Gewandhaus Orchestra) was clear to me: The Beyerdynamic is right! He is without sound coloring (neutral), enormous transparent and transported the orchestra differentiated on the ears.
Since I have from Bach to Shostakovich and from the Beasty Boys, Kraftwerk on Metallica to Yello and Fischer-Z a broad repertoire on CD, I could test the DT 880 with the different styles of music. He never disappointed, is always at least close to perfection. Punchy bass, brilliant highs, excellent resolution. His neutrality (never bored!) Makes it useful for so many genres!
I use the headset on the Macbook (amazingly good!) With Headphone Amplifier (Pro-Ject Head Box II Headphone amplifier silver, is worth the price, but not tip) on my old Quad HiFi systems (400 and 600), the TV (cinema-like sound!). My 250-ohm model brings even the iPhone still usable volume.
The DT 880 is available with three impedances, 32, 250 and 600 ohms and in two "mechanical" versions; With a firmer brackets as "Pro" and more comfortable fit than "Edition 2005". Overall, there are thus six variants of DT 880th
As it turns out only after he delivery, heard my KH - despite the lower price - to the usually more expensive "Edition 2005". Anyway, my sitting tight perfectly adequate and very comfortable for me.
The semi-open design of all DT 880s shields off properly without the (alleged) drawbacks of a fully closed.
In short: As a universal device for many musical styles and devices capable of Beyer Dynamics DT 880 is the first choice. In any case, it belongs to the class, and is also "made in Germany".
PS: Who etc. a high end headphones for iPhone / iPod looking, probably nothing better than the 32-ohm variation Beyerdynamic DT 880 Premium Stereo Headphones (32 Ohm, 100 mW, 96dB) can be found (see also page manufacturer).
