We enter fully into this murky atmosphere because the story told in the first person is served with a very vivid and expressive writing (author Carolyn D. Wall animates writing workshops for a long time).
This is Olivia who speaks and his story is dramatic.
It is the dune poor woman, bruised, it is also the story of his resilience and his fight for life.
She demonstrates great inner strength and acceptance of his fate demonstrates the strength of character that can only force admiration.
She lives among very poor people who, like her, trying to survive thanks to the assistance, to barter, to get by.
She must face the physical and especially emotional misery (his mother does not like her boyfriend who abandoned).
She does so with unfailing energy to raise her little son William that brazenly left his daughter when he was a few days and even ... no name!
The grand-mother / son breakfast is symbiotic, so much so that when the mother getting a brief appearance to reclaim the child, it will not break the strong ties Olivia and William.
This brilliantly written story consists of short chapters that I have eaten at top speed.
Until ... ... two-thirds since then, the story switches to the inconsistency and I was very disappointed.
The author wanted to give a shape to this thriller novel, and it weakens dramatic about it.
Too bad! That is why I noted only 3 stars.
Nevertheless, it remains a compelling story, remarkably written.
And I recommend reading.
