Adults sensitive and gifted: Finding a place to work and grow (Paperback)

Customer Review

It was long a few years, we were a good number eagerly watching the moment of its release & now this moment has finally arrived!

I have the great pleasure to present a preview of the new book Arielle Adda: "Adults sensitive and talented. Find a place to work and grow ":))
Indeed this big book of over 300 pages, more accurately co-written by Arielle Adda & Thierry Brunel, will be in bookshops on 04 February published by Odile Jacob.

I had the privilege of discovering the weekend and I therefore am sharing my reading opinion;)

You have probably doubt the tone of the beginning of this commentary I literally prances because I RE-GA-EEA when reading this book !!! : D
The faithful blog readers know how much I love Arielle Adda, his person (with great intelligence and of a humanity that commands admiration), but also & especially his precise vision & if so just people (children and adults) high intellectual potential :))

For those who have not been fortunate to have been able to meet her, I know that you are still very many marveling at his monthly columns in the Women's Journal. So I say to you in the most simple way: if you like these texts, there are a good bet that you will love this book;)

What a breath of fresh air, what a delight to read the whole chapters signed Arielle Adda, always full of great delicacy & yet so piercing.
The words hit home, as surely as EIP likes to stun his parents questions ^^
But they are especially good, actually. In addition Arielle Adda wears a beautiful pen (which is already very nice in itself!), His ideas & analyzes are terribly reassuring, soothing.

She can say with gentleness and force both the most intimate emotions of gifted people, she knows them so well. It depicts with an extravagant agility that provides immense pleasure to the reader: D

Extract: "By the grace of Professor Habib work, we now know that the mechanism which governs intuition has a real basis, scientifically observable.
Talented people do not work differently from the other, they are simply faster, safer, their arguments are more stringent, but they are not fundamentally different. "

Note a very beautiful passage on the famous supposed immaturity of children (T) HQI regularly opposed to parents when it comes to acceleration cycle, for example.

But Thierry Brunel is not left & also well written, on topics covered in the finally few books devoted to giftedness: up:

We read a lot about HP children, already a little less on adults HP ... but labor issues & their well-being in this professional sphere are much rarer in France. It generally favors emotional aspects, Private & introspective discovery (often late) of giftedness, leaving aside policy choices, career, etc.
So this is a book that comes to fix this oversight.

Similarly, most of the books on ADD / ADHD-H focuses on children! Adults "twice exceptional" combining giftedness & Attention Deficit Disorder with or without Hyperactivity have little been written. They will therefore certainly very happy to finally have a book that puts them in the light.

I issue a little doubt, however, as to the origin announced its first animal metaphor: the race of the Cheetah. Thierry Brunel writes:

Quote: "To all those words I prefer the term invented by the child of one of the leaders of French-speaking Switzerland Mensa. Cheetah"

Unless I am mistaken, this metaphor is in fact the work of Stephanie Tolan, author of American literature (for children ...) who published this fabulous text in 1996: "Is it a cheetah? (Is it a Cheetah?) "Shared on my blog Tribulations of a Little Zebra there is a few years: - |

Another small point which disturbed me as I found the opaque formulation (actually contrasting with the rest of the book, very clear hand & fluid), page 18 in the introduction:

Excerpt: "In the population of gifted adults, often there are wide variations in the scores on each of the eleven dimensions: 17 to 19: Exceptional, 10: medium or even frequently from 7 to 9, ie , well below the national average on certain dimensions. "

I wonder what can understand an unfamiliar reader notes of the scale applied to subtests Wechsler (notes ranging from 1 to 19. The score of 10 is considered the norm)? oO
I had to reread the sentence to understand what the author wanted to express, and when I first read it I even thought to a print shell not seeing any of the link with "11 dimensions" which sprang to my mind from nowhere and whose issue is not further up the page ...
Then I realized that the WAIS-R once comprised 11 parts classified into two large spheres (verbal & performance) !!!

The verbal scale was felt on 6 compulsory subtests: Information / Memory / numbers Vocabulary / Arithmetic / Understanding / Similarities.
When the scale was based on five performance subtests: Completely dimages / Arrangement of images / Cubes / assembly of objects / Code.

Form that was still valid for the WAIS-III ... but is now more on the WAIS-IV (referred to in this book) that it consists of only 10 compulsory subtests spread over 4 indices (VCI, PRI, IVT & IMT) & needed to calculate an IQ Total!

It seems there have been telescoping of data from old editions of WAIS & those of the current version of the Wechsler test for adults! ??

Parenthesis closed, back to the book! Chapters 2 coauthors & wonderfully articulate give a fascinating book, very dense & almost euphoric!

In terms of literature on giftedness, I have read a packet believe me, but I found myself inwardly tell me as I turned the pages:

"It is quite right / That's so true / But of course!"

With the unsettling feeling that my moods gather there all perfectly decoded peeled.

In conclusion a great read that will speak to all adults at high or very high IQ, they are discovered late in gifted or have been identified in childhood. Here is a book that will help in many ways to better understand & to advance by being stronger & more serene :)))

Funny story, in chapter 12 ("To what positions steer gifted adults") Thierry Brunel cites 10 types of trades adapted to gifted according to Jan Goldberg in his book "Careers for Geniuses Gifted & Other Types"; list that is not psychologists. Yet I know some in the profession that seems to suit ... ^^
