"A Day at the Races" is so often described as a "sister album" from "A Night at the Opera". Well, not to be dismissed out of hand is not, but the two albums opt substantially; At the time referred to by Brian May as "Clean Sweep" is with this album to songs that were just still in stock and you then miteinader used to a really ambitious follow-up album of "ANATO". I want this album still slightly more than the previous album, zumals already highly differentiated production on record and with a high dynamic range came over. Freddie sings really quite breathtaking "Koloratueren" and the re-remastering underscores everything once again. Although such "sound differences" are really only audible if you have the opportunity to hear on the local system. I guess I'm not "hi-fi freak" enough to the judge to conclude with, but I think the effort was worth it ...
The "deluxe edition" of the first 5 albums Queen offers an excellent remastering, the booklets were extended by several photos, there were no additional comments of tape inserted. The bonus tracks are sometimes very interesting, although one would have expected more. Probably they wanted to reserve the hitherto published titles for later "box", so the whole thing is nice to look at, but what you would expect as a fan of the band for so long not unfortunately offer these "deluxe version".
In "A day at the races" there as a bonus the "backing track" Tie your mother down, so to speak instrumental, then "Somebody to love" Live at Milton Keynes 1982 You Take My Breath Away (Live Hyde Park 1976) Good old fashiones loverboy (TOTP July 1977 in mono) and Teo Torriatte as HD mix. All very worth listening to, and really remastered sound technically outstanding as at "A Night at the Opera". But an "unknown" song I would have also very pleased ...
So I think we will be happy in the future several more times with "remastered" original albums, the archive will remain closed for the time being in many parts and I was "all in all" something disillusioned ...
Yes, you can say that's whining at a high level, but when I for the 5th time and the same Queen album buy me, but then only in order to come unreleased recordings in the enjoyment. What you get here are modifications and other versions already published titles and because the booklets have remained virtually unchanged, although a few photos supplemented by some, is to be hoped that it then something is the large "body of work" yet. The music deserves 5 stars, for "Nutwert" I would have awarded only 3 ...
