As in the first part of the Hobbit some indeed modified, but familiar melodies can be heard from Lord of the Rings Again, what I basically do not einschätze as negative. Also some new tunes are, among others, for the Mirkwood and the Elves, seaside city and the relationship between Kili and Tauriel.
If one sees the soundtrack just as an individual work, without overlooking Shores other works, he is outstanding. I hear a lot and like to film soundtracks and have enough to compare it to say the can. Especially the above three new tunes I found very beautiful, especially the to Kili and Tauriel, which can be heard among other things in the plays "Feat of Starlight" and "Kingsfoil" and belonging to the same, for example, in "The Forest River "and" Beyond the Forest "occurs. On the other hand I must say that these three melodies and thus the pieces in which they occur, pretty much the only tracks on the CDs that have really touched me. This phenomenon I had some in the other Shore soundtracks already. There was really no soundtrack, in which I have consistently fallen all the pieces, so I chalk that these CDs also not excessively, it had to be said nonetheless.
What I find very sad is that one of the most beautiful pieces of the soundtrack, "Beyond the Forest" on my CD player ever hooked and will never play sensibly. But that seems to be on my player, because when I tried it in another device, it worked ...
As I mentioned above, the soundtrack itself is really beautiful and worth listening to, but can not quite measure up to the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit first soundtrack itself. What I particularly missed, were the epic Leitmelodien how could the Lord of the Rings for example in "The Bridge of Khazad Dum" and the Hobbit in "Overhill" (the Misty Mountain Theme) listen. This guide melody came not before in this soundtrack!
What struck me especially when seeing the film, is that to me at a Peter Jackson film adaptation Tolkien never the soundtrack is so little noticed. The other films was always an important of the elements that make up the brilliance of this strip. I must say that the Desolation of Smaug did not detract from, I have most of the time more stood on my cinema seat as sitting, with his fist in the mouth, even though I know the book! ;)
All in all I would give the soundtrack a separate work even five stars, because I'm used to from Howard Shore but unfortunately not only good, not even better, but perfect, there are "only" four stars.
