Summary
-----------------------
The camera like it very much. Functionality, operation and processing are well. The image quality should be good for me, according to tests, but even I have not yet been systematically tested.
One star deduction because:
- Problematic USB connection to the PC (see below), special cable required instead of standard mini-USB connector.
- Panasonic Battery policy that tried to force too expensive original batteries (but see below).
- Well something scarcely measured battery capacity.
- No printed manual.

Accessories
----------
Mir was also before buying from the Amazon information not clear what actually contains the article and you need additional. I then made me painfully on the Internet smart and shopped fortunately quite right. Here the findings.

Included is:
- Original Battery DMW-BCG10E, charger + mains cable, battery container.
- Carrying strap.
- Special USB cable (the camera does not have standard mini USB port but a special socket for USB and AV).
- Special AV cable for analog connection to TV or VCR (three RCA). The cord is too short, only 1.5m.
- Booklets with short manuals for camera, GPS and software - sufficient for QuickStart.
- CD-Rom with manual, PHOTOfunSTUDIO (Windows software to load, edit and manage photos and videos on the PC), QuickTime Player (useless, everyone).

In addition, therefore is necessary:
- Memory Card (must). In my case, "Sandisk Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) Extreme Video HD 16GB Memory Card". The smaller 8GB card is 20% cheaper.
- Second battery (recommended because a battery was certainly empty during my tests within a few hours). Panasonic is trying to force one on her original part for a lot of money. I have nevertheless "quality battery for Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ7 DMC TZ7, Li-Ion, Li-Ion, 100% fits, battery Camcorder, Video, Digital Camera" bought for a quarter of the original. This battery is functioning properly, even after firmware upgrade to 1.1.
- Bag. I chose "digiETUI Leather Case for Panasonic TZ series (TZ3, TZ4, TZ5, TZ6, TZ7, TZ10)" decided, but still do not know whether the GPS receiver in your pocket has enough reception.
- Standard HDMI cable (if you want to use the camera on TV). I have "PureLink HDMI 1.3 connection cable HDMI / Mini HDMI 3.0m". Less would have been better.

Recommended:
- SDHC card reader. In my case, "SanDisk ImageMate All-In-One USB 2.0". In this reader, it takes the SDHC card with a 100MB file on enormously fast 11MB / s write, 17MB / s read. The reader is faster than the camera, you can write / delete hence. The camera uses a lot of battery power when direct download from the camera.

In this way the price increases for the camera by about a third. That's like buying a car.

Operation / menu navigation

Manual
------------
- Is there only electronically as a PDF. Because it is 178 color pages, that's annoying.
- At Panasonic on the Internet there are strangely two manuals. Also from the CD.
- In spite of sometimes bumpy German The manual is easy to read and understandable.
- It simultaneously describes the TZ8 and TZ9, making it thicker than necessary.

Image Quality

At first I was not thrilled because everything seemed a bit flat. Then have the praiseworthy review read here of Robin Pomreinke (17.06.10) and the camera is in P mode adjusted accordingly. Now I find the images Super! I use:

GPS
-----
- There are complaints here and elsewhere that it was slow and often have poor reception. But these are GPS features and has nothing to do with the camera. You have to know that at the beginning and after prolonged downtime every GPS device receives first minutes extensive GPS data from the satellites detected. After that it goes at the expected rate.

Software PHOTOfunSTUDIO

- There is a big nonsense that all camera manufacturers constantly trying to push a new software on the eye. The course is useless, because everyone already has his picture processing program.
- I use for years Adobe Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements, and of course so can load and edit the photos by the TZ10.
- However, there is a small problem with the AVCHD Lite videos of Lumix. So a video is not just merely a file, but a whole data structure that does not seem to really be standardized. PSE8 can upload the actual stream (a .mts file), but seems to ignore the other information. Since I still have at Adobe for a suitable codec see. Incidentally shows the PSE Organizer no thumbnails for those videos. When the file but from .mts .m2ts after then renames already.

USB port
-----------------
- The USB port is for that reason alone to criticize because it is Panasonic-specific, therefore requires special cables. Unpleasant though is that it only works in one direction. So you can not delete images loaded directly from the PC image processing. This must be done continuously manually on the camera itself. In addition, the camera is not supplied via this USB cable.
- I have beaten me two days, that this compound was unbearably slow. Approximately 1 minute per photo, thus unusable. The Panasonic Hotline and also the technicians knew no advice. I should send in the camera with its cable. But now I have found the cause. It is the File Ant-virus protection from Kaspersky, which slows the connection to death. There seems to be a bug in the Kaspersky software. I am clear on the Kaspersky Labs Forum ([...]
The remedy is clear: Stop the File Anti-Virus protection during the download from the camera temporarily or better create exception rules for Lists of SDHC card in Kaspersky. Then everything works normally.

AV terminal (analog) TV
------------------------------------
- Works immediately, but of course is no longer appropriate.
- Because everything must be operated from the camera, the included special cable with its 1.5m is too short.

HDMI port on TV
----------------------------
- Works immediately and in superb quality.
- Although it is in the manual that this is to control only Panasonic TVs and VIERA Link from the TV remote control, the Loewe my TV but can also. VIERA Link is a Panasonic extension of the standard HDMI CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) and a TV with HDMI CEC seems to be sufficient.
- Because you can in this connection forget the camera and not have to touch extends a short HDMI cable.

Firmware
