All good things come in 3 - A comparison.

This is the 3rd Sound Base (Denon DHT-T100; XXXX XX-XX1; Denon DHT-T110) which I tested. I'm not an audiophile, only a sophisticated listener. You do not just seem to have it with this device category. On the look I will not go, because everyone sees the device itself to the advertising shots and everyone has their personal preferences.

# Target Group #

TV consumers with flat screen TVs, but no longer tolerate neither space / money / feel like a 5.1, 7.1 ... have the sound system of the flat device.

My starting point was a stereo system, connected to the receiver and media player via RCA were (because the TV only has an optical digital audio output).
The sound of the TV, I felt as not bad, in movies, however, was the stereo get around no. But where was the problem? The speech intelligibility over such a system is limited (especially in today's blended soundtracks of movies - and not everyone wants to be bothered by ambient and background noise loudly), clearly one could achieve an improvement by treble / bass / volume adjustments, but absolutely satisfactory the result was never. It should prove to be bleating at a high level.

# 1. Device DHT T100 (direct predecessor) #

Since I had already found a Denon compact system my peace, was the first tested SoundBase by Denon. As with the successor, there was a quick start guide for really easy start, manual for detailed questions, a stylish remote control (which I fortunately do not need), cable accessories and of course the device itself.

+ Build + As promised, very simple: connect power cables, connect optical digital cable, TV speakers off, trained TV remote control and finish.

+ + Very easy operation. TV comes on, Denon is going on. Volume / mode choice was self-selected (decreased) buttons on the TV remote control. Standby after 5 minutes automatically shut off TV or by pressing a button.

+ Sound / Sound + The actual discipline was my problem: There were 5 Playback options and none of them could really convince me. Something was always "unbalanced". The votes were always relatively "too thin".
Furthermore, (maybe I'm a little hypersensitive, therefore not objective), I got a headache during the test film. After about 50% and some adjustment variants I asked the Denon sound base from which Denon compact system and felt this as much more pleasant.

# 2. Device XXXX XX-XX1 #

From the second unit (from a former premium producer) I promised myself a lot more power. The big difference was the HDMI cable (instead of an optical digital cable). This example was a higher-quality sound - Dolby Digital - (.. What the Denon wg O cable can not support) no more obstacles. In addition there was for Denon a price increase of about 70% in spite of flash range.

+ Build + proceeded slightly more complicated than Denon. "Source devices" on the base sound, HDMI cable to the TV, TV sound off.
+ Maintenance + Here I had a problem that not everyone will have: Since this is the TV for a manufacturer other than the TV and to not support ARC (return channel), I had to rely on the sound base remote control. Even if I had, necessarily, always had 2 remote controls in use as the use of compact stereo system.
Tip: Anyone looking for a HDMI solution should pay strict attention to the presence of ARC and manufacturers compatibility! Otherwise there are some functional limitations.
The advertised app for controlling I tried wg. og problem therefore also the same. The result was disappointing: I could (partially cumbersome) make some adjustments, but not all. With a universal remote control I do not take anything into account, at a app.

+ Sound / Sound + For the very purpose of the device then the disappointment was perfect: Here I could just as easily turn on the TV speakers. Added value I could not make out - if one disregards the booming subwoofer times. (This is probably not really be objective, since it is a quality feature for some consumers - for example, I have deliberately not subwoofer to the compact system). The speech intelligibility, however, was perfect - even more perfect we took a different setting. Anyone who sees an added value in this device, has received well built quite lousy TV speakers. For me it was the wrong device.

# 3. Device DHT T110 #

Already given a neat solution to be found, I discovered by chance a flash range with the successor to the original Denon sound base. As my confidence in this manufacturer was still unclouded, I let myself to the experiment.

+ Build + Identical to the previous model. Externally (I have the unit disassembled) there was absolutely no changes to its predecessor.

+ + Operation even easier because there are only 3 (instead of 5) Playback variations.
The Bluetooth connection I tried out this machine. Does simple, straightforward and trouble-free.

+ Sound / Sound + One may see as a disadvantage only 3 settings to have (+ night mode), but in this case it is an advantage. The big difference between the 100 and the 110 is the "reconfiguration" of the reproduction options. Voices sound strong, everything somehow balanced. I find absolutely no problem the "right" mode. May be that high and low frequencies are cut off in night mode, but the result counts for me and that's exactly what I was looking for. Whether it's just the custom firmware or if there were technical changes, can and I do not judge.

Conclusion # #

The Denon DHT-T110 is the right compromise between surround sound system and TV speakers.

Who is satisfied with the previous model, the worth can not be upgraded.

Those looking for surround sound that should please enter in the search line 5.1 or 7.1 with. Here the manufacturers can do what they want, from behind now come once physical reasons no sounds at. What the Denon sound base units (with me), however, was what the 2nd unit is not able to produce an incredibly wide soundstage. It may always lie with the room, but I have at least caught me as I occasionally hear sounds from the right corner of the room in certain scenes.

Anyone tired of his stereo has a home theater Tonquellenersatz, dialogues! Despite setting adjustment! poorly understood, in the Denon can find higher-value replacement (of course depending on the claim).

Anyone looking for a stereo system for listening to music, please look for a stereo system and no sound base / soundbar or the like.

Of course, the decoding of other formats missing as Dolby Digital / PCM, but if you look for something serious increasingly even at a sound base?

The manufacturer's price of 299 EUR, there has of course in itself. However, one must clearly realize: You get a cleanly designed, well-designed device. Typical Denon precisely.
