First, I asked myself the fundamental question of whether 10 or 8 inches are correct. Until now, I had a 11.6 "Convertible and a normal 10" (People's Tablet). The former was much too heavy and unwieldy. The second was that, but I still was too heavy and too bulky. Due to still other inadequacies, I have this also returned. So I started to experiment with an 8 inch model to cope. This is a slightly more challenging particularly in the use of Windows.
Now I will not go into detail, because everyone has to decide for themselves on it. There are just pros and cons. For me, the biggest advantage is the enormous maneuverability, due to the compact size and relatively low weight. The "bulge" of yoga that especially in portrait mode is incredibly practically simultaneously, allows the Tab appear even easier than it actually is because the center of gravity lies in the hands. Especially during an evening reading books to make the very positive effect, because you can hold the device with one hand longer. That was not at all with the larger tablets. Of course, this advantage is bought with the disadvantage of a relatively small display of text, symbols, etc.
So far so good.
For operating system. Yes, it had to be necessarily Windows. Although I would have because of previous disappointments with Windows tablets, almost the fronts have changed and beaten me to the Apple camp. Luckily, I still dared to experiment with the Lenovo Yoga and has been, at least not disappointed so far. If, as I already have a Windows computer at home and use in the company Windows laptop and Windows Phone makes an integrated system so perfect sense. At this point, be noted that Android is not an option for me.
But now continues to Yoga.
The start-up was really good. The restriction, because Windows could not decide between German and English. As a result, I had a first language mishmash. So the headlines of pull-down menus are displayed in English, but everything including in German. The situation improved gradually and now the English name is used only during the shutdown and boats. Well I can live with.
Otherwise, everything went smoothly. Windows account set up and all was well. Mail mailbox, cloud (OneDrive) Apps - all there. The integration into a home network, including printer discovery a breeze! Class!
The yoga itself can look very sophisticated, despite the rather thin plastic back. Everything else I would say is with the iPad at eye level. I especially like, despite initial skepticism, the gripping bead with stand function. This allows the tab up wonderfully in various positions, which improves the Handy immensely. Intermediate positions are possible despite the lack of armor, at least during 8-inch model.
In addition, the Yoga offers the high-resolution full-HD display with excellent color reproduction and just such sensitivity. I am writing this review with the Yoga on the also super responsive on-screen keyboard. In addition, you can very well make entries with a correspondingly suitable pen, because that yoga 8 has a AnyPen function. This works fine. I urge anyone still doubt has a tablet with Full-HD display for sale. Everything else with less resolution is not satisfactory. In addition, it should be noted that the surface gives a very good gliding. When my predecessor device that was not the case.
However, the very best on the Lenovo Yoga is the battery runtime, which although does not reach the specified 18 hours, however, with more than 10 hours all beats what I had so far in the tablet area in his hands.
In summary, once again the positive properties:
- High quality
- Very good modern operating system
- Very light and handy (at least that yoga 8)
- Great high-resolution display
- Great grip concept with the possibility to set up the tablet different and even to hang!
- Very long battery life, since the battery is in the Will and could therefore be larger.
- Pretty decent sound, at least given the device size
- MS Office 365 is available for free in the delivery and thus at least 1 year
In principle, I'm with the device very satisfied and I would have given 5 stars also. Unfortunately, there are also a few negative points, which are:
- The on / off switch is placed under control very unhappy, so that these pressed accidentally while keeping frequently and so that the device sends to the standby mode.
- There is only a single USB port on selfsame even the mount occurs. It is also a not very modern 2.0 port. For me, something simply incomprehensible.
- And finally has the Yoga 8 as opposed to big brother no HDMI connector, what annoys me the most and I therefore am not entirely conclusive if I do not yet replaced the unit through the 10 inch counterpart.
Definitely give it for this 3 main shortcomings of me 1 star deduction.
Nevertheless, it's a good, above average for me what device receives a recommendation with restriction of me.
Addendum of 16/02/2015:
I have a yoga now but given 2 8 inches back. Reason 1: No HDMI port, which is me important. Reason 2: 8 inches are too small for Windows. It's just too fiddly to use in desktop mode. Too bad.
