This is not so trivial, for me there is no single passively cooled motherboard known which owns more than two SATA ports and more than one PCI slot. An additional SATA controller was eliminated because of the already occupied by the TV card PCI slots. So I thought at first to a SATA port multiplier. Unfortunately, the integrated on the candidate Boards Intel chipsets all support any SATA port multiplier.
So I tried it with the subject product, and used this to connect an (existing) internal IDE DVD burner via USB on Intel D2500HN motherboard. So that I could even kill two birds with one stone. Firstly I had the opportunity to actually connect all three drives, and secondly, I was able to even use the existing IDE DVD writer and had to buy a new SATA burner.
The adapter works fine - and to make matters worse, I can even from the IDE DVD burner connected to it to boot (something that does not work in many a PCI IDE controller). So I could actually easily install the OS from a DVD.
The adapter supports both 40-pin and 44-pin IDE drives - and also SATA drives. I tested the 40-pin IDE interface and the SATA connector.
However, the mechanical properties of the product give rise to some criticism:
1.) The enclosure is a few millimeters larger than the IDE connector. Since the power supply is immediately adjacent to the IDE connector on many IDE drives, the device may block the power connector. In my two IDE test drives we went to exactly - but I had to introduce it at a slight angle to the power connector (which due to the tolerances in the Molex connection barely worked).
2.) The two housing halves together hold not very good. My copy fell apart several times and put thereby the board free. It was also seen that mentioned in point 1 About width of the housing has no objective reasons. Because the board contains only a few components and a lot of free space. You could also hammer out small
Even if the thing otherwise worked perfectly, I have to because of the (completely unnecessary) mechanical problems but deduct a star.
