By cons, some remarks about this version is the one I selected (purchased from Amazon and not a third-party seller, be cautious vis-à-vis certain dealers offering bargain prices):
- OEM version already, that is to say, in principle installable on a single PC, transferred to another machine. Given the price difference compared to a boxed version (almost half the price), it hardly seems useful to choose the boxed version, unless you intend to change your depth machine (change the motherboard model in particular) to few months.
- 64-bit. Almost all modern computers are equipped with a 64 bit processor, which can therefore run this version of Windows (check absolutely before buying if you are not sure!) Some applications will benefit and will be more efficient . Others, still the majority of our days, will operate identically. In some exceptional cases, it may be incompatibilities, it is generally very old applications that predate Windows XP. Other interest, to fully utilize the PC memory (4 gigabytes and more), which is impossible for the 32-bit versions.
- Pro version: more expensive than Home Edition, I chose this version to run without problem some old software I still need through the Microsoft Windows XP emulator comes standard with this version (free download at Microsoft, which also manages many USB devices such as printers, scanners etc.) which is not the case in the family version. There are some other differences, such as the integration of an automatic Windows backup tool (what I do on a network connected external drive.) These features are not useful for everyone, and the family version will suffice for most large number.
Everyone is free to choose the most adapted version - or anything other than Windows for that matter! One thing is sure, to read user disappointments past Windows 8 PC for their non-touch, I do not intend to change for years.
