Customer Review

little background information:
Have one year the Iphone 4 used, but all Apple software (iOS and iTunes) I never liked. I have always been too complicated, you needed always plenty of time and it never worked the way I wanted.
I also had the phone always clean in a plastic bag packaging, if I went running (if it looked like rain) and walking tours of the battery ranged about a day and you always had to watch out that the expensive apparatus did not fall into the muck.

Now I looked for an alternative that had to meet the following criteria:
- Lighter and smaller than the iPhone, but the same features
- IP67 Standard
- Decent battery life
- Android OS (Gingerbread 2.3)

I then opted for the Motorola Defy +, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover and the Sony Xperia Active Ericcsson. Tested long and then to keep every 3 weeks the best and sell the other.

First, I tested the Defy +:

what I liked - good size and weight, battery life was gigantic compared to the iPhone, the LED that flashed with new alerts, battery was always in a time of 2 hours to fully recharge, good display (inc boxes the Motorola mitlieferte.), by the Gorilla glass, I had no problems to open beer bottles

what bothered me - processing of locking mechanism from the USB - connector (shockingly, after 2 weeks of the closing was sitting no longer correct (used daily the USB port for tethering)), battery is partly up to 42 ° C hot in various applications, during charging or when the Defy + via cable to the laptop hangs, it is impossible to do anything on the phone because it has constantly to 5s dropouts of up -> Write SMS as an ordeal, display with wet finger fuckin crazy -> impossible at all to do something (only dry hands, then the display and after 2 minutes we went back), a lot of patience I had to bring the my PC does not recognize the Defy, although I plan have the Moto-software, has been connecting with every afresh device drivers are installed and transferring data work, but as I said only with great effort, the camera quality is bad

After the Galaxy Xcover came:

what I liked - Super processing, flashlight function by pressing a button, I also like the Samsung Androidoberfläche, 100% waterproof (tested)

what bothered me - oh my God, the size !! If I had known from the beginning what so a few millimeters make up, I would have never gained this smartphone: the part was larger than an iPhone + Car. In addition, the screen resolution is entäuchend which could have been better at this size. Also worth mentioning: the smartphone launched occasionally new (2 times every 24 hours) which I frankly do not like. Battery life and weight were ok (battery life: always 3g, much internet, no WiFi, GPS or Bluetooth). to connect the phone to your PC to transfer data, I do not get. Despite Samsung software and drivers installed, I have not managed this.

Finally, the Sony Xperia Active Ericcsson:

what I like - When unpacking, I was happy, besides charging cable you have so many other accessories, then I switch the part on and immediately I noticed that even though the display is smaller than the other phones, I had less problems to make virtual buttons. The Xperia surface I like best of all UI's. I quickly installed the software on my PC, closed the phone and Zack, everything was recognized and ran without problems. Even without driver installation fonktioniert the phone as a USB mass storage. Camera quality is okay, film quality also.

what I do not like so much - Usbverschluss is not made for eternity, but as accompanied by a second cover I think that's not so bad, battery life is not as long as is keeping the Defy, but during normal usage the battery lasts for 2 days yet

Conclusion: I would have again chosen one of these 3 Outdoorkonkurenten, I would make up my mind once again for the Xperia. In all the points that were important to me, the Xperia beats the other phones (except battery, but two days enough for me)

Those who want more information can feel free to contact me.

Kind regards

PS So after I got the SE Xperia active now 4 months in use I can add different information regarding the smartphones.
I'm still very satisfied with the device and it would not really exchanged for another phone.
As for the tethering: I was with any device as soon as the Internet on the go with this. About WLAN connected to my laptop I notice no difference (or only a small many images) to my line at home. But this is perhaps because I've almost anywhere the UMTS network, which in other smartphones in the same places was not the case (only EDGE).
Waterproof is the SE also have very nice snapshots made with us in the pool and the display works perfectly in the shower in which I have already sent one or the other SMS.
What surprised me the SE also after I had the Defy + and have changed the SE, I had this before not as robust as the Defy. But now I have the certainty that the SE is as robust after I lost it the one time or another from his hand and fell to the tile floor. Even a flight on the terrace, where I thought "ok, now it is gone" survived the device with only a small Schrame the cover ... I definitely was surpised.
also worth mentioning: When the temperature dropped to -17 degrees, had a friend after several hours walk find the dog that Iphone not built for this is ... my Xperia was still running like clockwork even if I had the feeling that the display some react slowly.

Conclusion: For every situation ready: if dust, water, falls or cold.
