Customer Review

On their second studio album "Select" concluded Kim Wilde in 1982 musically and by the commercial success of her debut seamlessly from the previous year. On the whole, this CD offered energetic Uptemposongs, included the elements of new wave and synthpop, but by no means meant a musical standstill or even imitation of the first album.

"Select" on the one hand offers sophisticated and refined arrangements compared to its predecessor, identifies the other hand, at any time as a typical Kim Wilde. Already the two great world hits of the album testify to this mixture: the number 1 hit "Cambodia" offers refined Synthisounds and wistful vocals electropop to perfection, while the bass-driven, slightly dark "View from a Bridge" with its brisk beat an example represents for driving New Wave first rate.

But the rest of the song palette keeps this level. Of the almost hectic and chaotic power numbers "ego" and "Chaos at the airport" on the punk-heavy "Words fell down" and the drums emphasized massive "Can you come over" to the atmospherically dense, equipped with melodramatic overtones "Take me Tonight, that would also have been a first-class single candidate. "Just A Feeling" next "Cambodia" is the only slightly slower gehaltenere song on the CD and offers a melody full Melancholik and depth, but without exhibiting ballad signs. As on the debut LP There are, however, also on "Select" to "Action City" a stopgap, which radiates little energy, melody and force the rest of the CD.

Overall, "Select" reflects an outstanding manner the typical Kim Wilde from the first half of the 80s again. Who liked the debut album "Kim Wilde" who will love the sound perfected on "Select".
