John Powell was "easy to Train Your Dragon" for the soundtrack of the first film in 2011 nominated rightly for an Oscar. That raised the bar for the second part of the score, of course, very high, but it has truly Powell managed to surpass here! Of course, musical leitmotifs of the previous part are taken up again in tracks like "Dragon Racing", but they are outshone by the new leitmotif of the second film, which presents itself in numerous tracks in different variations. After enjoying the actual film the tracks "Stoick saves Hiccup" and "Stoick's Ship" unfold a particularly emotional impact that stands up to the repeated listening. Even the bagpipe use can be assessed as very successful here. The subtle use of the chorus, reminiscent of Powell's earlier works such as "The Huddle" from the "Happy Feet" score, convinces all along the line, from the modern white two songs "Where No One Goes" even across the board to convince, while the credit song "Into A Fantasy" by Alexander Rybak a little drops compared to the rest of the instrumental scores.
