As part of product testing I was able to test the HP Pavilion 10-k000ng x2 tablet. Wow, what a product name. It concerns with the tablet to a Windows 8.1 Tablet with genuine Windows. So it is a so-called. Full-fledged computer. Normal programs, not only apps can be installed on the device.
Perhaps an additional word to the operating system. This is to Windows 8.1 with Bing, a normal Windows in the Bing search is set as the default in Internet Explorer 8.1 installation. Due to the operating system without licensing cost is distributed, which in turn will make the distribution such tablets much cheaper. However, the search can also be easily switched to eg Google. Then the operating system is no longer different from a normal Windows 8.1.
The first impression
The first impression of the device was quite positive. The unit was with her back to the top of the box which you first got the back of the cover to face. The matt backside liked itself very well. The cover in a beautiful gray with patterns I also like. Supplied located next to the tablet itself a keyboard cover, which is used as a protection for the device. The entire display is covered by the cover. About small spacers made of rubber buttons are not on the display. So far so good. The back of the device is also protected by the Kickstand part of the area. The HP logo, which incidentally held in Chrome-look, what I do not like, and after a few minutes looks hideous in use, is completely covered by the cover.
The first impression, which knew to convince on the back, except for the HP logo, well, unfortunately, was very turbid on the front. Okay, that the display is not AR-coated to be expected (although this is dubbed as entstspiegelt). Left and right of the display are however over the entire height, the two speakers. What is not wrong per se, but what has to please beautiful thought in disguise? The covers are available in piano look and interact with the right rough holes frankly pretty cheap.
Performance
What the Pavilion has sifted slightly in the first impression, it makes the performance amends. In the period by the tablet was used for everyday tasks such as surfing the Internet, the writing of various documents with Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Co, the tablet did not make any dropouts or stuttering. So it must be. The usefulness as a tablet is quite be described as good, even if the device is not the lightest tablet than with 590g. With docked keyboard, the tablet turns into a 10 inch netbook.
The Keyboard
The docking keyboard is solved via a magnetic lock, which is a very good approach to security. However, the reaction is not satisfactory in every situation. When it is dark, the attaching the keyboard cover designed rather cumbersome and makes little fun.
One looks sometimes very long after the notches on the lugs (see picture). If I use the Class Primus Microsoft Compare the functionality tablet, it looks pretty bleak at the Pavilion. There is much room for improvement
The keyboard itself is operating and also writing something longer texts. But nothing more. The surface / the Metarial the keys feels very out of, and thus seems to me, unfortunately, something cheap. The pressure point of the keys is, however, to call taking into account the thickness of the keyboard as well. The touchpad, however, pleasantly surprised me. One can navigate very precisely with it. Even gestures like scrolling with two fingers be reliably performed. Except for a small LED that indicates an activated CAPS LOCK key, the keyboard has no backlight. Working in the dark with no additional work lamp thus becomes somewhat difficult. Meaningful function keys make it easier to work in everyday life. Thus, for example, regulate the brightness of the display on this.
The keyboard allows on the magnetic stand two positions to work. The photos taken to show these positions.
The stability of the display using the cover has surprised me in two ways. The fact that the base is attached but fairly low initially made me wonder at the design or its stability. But the display is ausrechend Stable. However, the display still wobbles already neatly back and forth. Thus, I think the concept is to work on solid substrates perfectly fine. For working on the move, for example. To park on your lap it is rather moderate MMN suitable.
Interfaces
As befits a tablet that also part of the right to use as a PC, you will find various ports on the Tablet. On the left side is only the combined connector is for a headset or speaker / microphone.
The remaining connections and controls are located on the right side of the device. At the top is the first Volume is mounted rocker switch that allows you to adjust the volume. Directly underneath the Windows button is located. This is in contrast to most Windows tablets is not on the front next to or below the display. Unfortunately, I must once again criticize: Both the volume rocker, but in particular the Windows key must be pressed extremely tight, so they really trigger.
Below you will find a slot for Micro-SD card to expand the internal memory (32 GB). Following is a video output in the form of micro-HDMI. Next, a full USB 2.0 port can be found. The conclusion is the Micro-USB connector, which is used for charging the device.
On top of the addition, the power button to turn on and to lock / unlock the device is available.
Technical Specifications
I want the technical data mentioned only briefly here, as they will anyway be found on the product page. The unit is equipped with an Intel Atom processor, which is clocked at 1.33 GHz. An integrated graphics unit, also from Intel, are 2GB of RAM available, which should be sufficient for most work on the unit. The display of the tablet dissolves with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels is sufficiently sharp and leaves in the price category nothing to be desired. About wireless device to the Internet is connected, in the video calls can be made with the full HD webcam.
Battery life
Here I can actually spread praise for the tablet. Thanks to the power-saving Atom processor allows a tablet rarely go down. With moderate use of the tablet battery for several days by holding easily.
Conclusion
The HP Pavilion 10-k000ng x2 HP brings a pretty solid entry device on the market that is suitable for everyday tasks. But a little disappointed me was the quality of workmanship and the choice of materials at various points. The device, which I received for testing had partially on sharp edges, which as tablet tarnishes feel strong in the hand. Shiny surfaces do not act noble, but just cheap. Especially with more intensive use of these are verkratz and dirty in no time. I can not understand it, which is why such materials or surfaces still be used.
For the price of 319 Euro (as of November 2014), however, you get a decent package. It is after all, a nearly full-featured PC. I say therefore almost since the internally existing 32 GB are not enough to turn the unit really to use as a PC. HP, however, has provided the expansion via Micro SD card.
I highly recommend this device absolute beginners who have not a particularly great demands on processing quality, but just looking for a device of the lower to middle price category, which is used both as a tablet as well as a full PC to install common programs.
I would like to emphasize praise particularly that at this price already includes a corresponding keyboard cover included. That's just great. The quality of the overall product is in my opinion slightly below what you would expect for the price. The scope of supply on the other hand, thanks to the keyboard is to be described as very good.
