1. The objective of this review:

In this review I would like to introduce the iPhone 5 with the most interesting for me innovations and thereby make a comparison with the previous models. In particular, this iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S are interesting because surely many of you consider whether the difference in performance to the high cost of a move can really do it justice.
All owners whose predecessors are older than the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS speak, 3G, 2G etc. pp. you can actually fully recommend buying. The jump is so big that you can hardly regret it if people were convinced of its iPhone to date.
Then immediately added a very important thing in advance:
I will set no comparisons between Apple and Androidsmartphones here. Whether the Samsung Galaxy S3 or the Motorola RAZR is now soon to be released better or not, everyone should find out for yourself.
In my eyes it is a pure question of faith and I just feel more comfortable in a iOS operating system environment. But that Androidhandys possess at least as great features and components, but should already be clear.
My previous experience with other smartphones (Palm Pre, Blackberry,) I would also be indirectly incorporated with.

2. First impression, build quality and handling:

I was very skeptical that the iPhone 5 would really still look appealing to the elongated display. Meanwhile, I've changed my mind. When I was finally able to keep it even in times hands, the format had a positive effect! The phone looks much more stylish appearance for my taste. If you have to get used to it, is an ancient iPhone 4S from even quite stocky.
The workmanship is as expected very good. The first unit has something easily rattled when shaken. Exchanges at the Apple Store to a OVP device carried easily (even if no additional devices were sold!). Apple protects itself against such incidents and forms special exchange quotas in the camp!
Anyone who wants to convert within the first 14 days the device due to a quirk, by the way does not require an appointment at the Genius Bar. You have to u. U. make the seller clear yet, but it's definitely! Have not done differently in the Munich flagship store and have had quite enough stress for the launch
Unfortunately, "Scuff-gate" not a rumor. A seller in the Apple Store has confirmed to me that a great many devices are affected. So far, however, almost exclusively black.
Many iPhone 5 models have from the very beginning small scratches on anodized (?) On aluminum frame. My replacement unit was spotless but has now also already damaged paint job. Maybe I will therefore replace again in a few weeks the unit! As bad as it is often portrayed, but it's not. You have to look closely.
An exchange is but trouble. Nevertheless, there are of me for this half a star deduction! Processing convinced in principle, but with such a price I expect better quality controls and endurance tests.
The handling is, however, become super again. Just because it has not widened, it is still very good in the hand. If one the old iPhone 4 (S) model in addition to the 5 Series one sees immediately that it is not so much longer! The display was namely primarily increased within the framework through better space utilization.
For someone like me who has rather smaller hands, this is really a blessing.
The difference in weight to previous models it shows immediately. This requires not even a comparison device. However, the weight is still heavy enough to comfortable to be in the hands.
That the device has also become a little thinner, I realize only when directly compared. In his pocket the difference is not noticeable.
Optical me the new iPhone 5 like better than the 4S. But know some people who are exactly the opposite opinion! So is it any wonder? - A matter of taste.

Before I gave the device in hand, the first innovation was the higher EIA price! But this I will not be included in the rating with. He is up to date. Other manufacturers have in some cases even higher starting prices. The big difference is that Apple products have virtually no decline in prices due to Apples sales policy.
Apple is thus just as overpriced, like all other manufacturers.
On the instrument itself, the design has been completely revised. How does it manifest itself, I have already described. For me, this is actually the biggest change, because Apple once again shows how to accommodate significantly more powerful components save even more space and still design aesthetics holds up!
What I would like to also equal to a few words lose the inner workings. Apple uses an in-house chip (A6 chip) and it is rumored that this is a dual-core processor with 1 GHz clock rate per round core. The GPU (graphics chip) is also improved! RAM has been increased and the iPhone 5 now has 1 GB of memory on. The general pace of work improved so noticeably! However, the data alone do not say anything and at this point I can not resist a comparison:
So the Samsung Galaxy S3 for example, has more powerful hardware (quad core, higher clocking 1.4GHz per core!) Installed. Comparing the efficiency of both systems, however, the iPhone 5 cuts off much better! In a benchmark Apple device was with 1601 points just before the S3 with 1588 points.
This is not to say that the iPhone is better, because in practice, these values are smoke and mirrors. Rather, I want to tell you times to point out that the technical characteristics of mobile phones are not simply descriptive. Software and operating system are much more important. What bring 8 cores if the program supports only 1?
The iPhone 5, incidentally, requires a nano-SIM, which is even smaller than the micro-SIM card. Since the appointment of such a SIM card costs money for some operators, I would advise you to start the trial and to cut the old simcard itself rightly. That I have the work may find themselves.
Another new feature is the support LTE! Unfortunately, only in telecom network and thus for many customers unusable.
But it is questionable anyway, how much sense does LTE for individuals. Since the volume quotas are often to 1GB (partly even less) limited, you will reach the limit very quickly with UMTS. After all, you are surfing since even with 3.6 or 7.2 Mbit / s which corresponds to approximately 3,000 DSL DSL 6000. I can therefore still well without it as long as the volume amount for surfing is not significantly increased. Because after reaching this limit you will be throttled even with LTE on GPRS level. So on modem speed.
I think it's just annoying because there is additional space in the phone, the other things could have been used.
For example, for an NFC chip, which was now but not installed. But this is not very bad. Apple has created the app Passbook a clever alternative. Because of their use must be installed no NFC reader. Instead, working with QR codes and mobile tickets. Lufthansa has taken over this service as soon as possible in its range with the resonance is so positive.

The main camera has been slightly improved (I see almost no difference in the images between iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S). The front camera, however, was significantly optimized! Here shots are now possible in HD resolution!
However, the images are noticeably better than the iPhone 4 (without S!).
iPhone 4: rich colors, act slightly unnatural less overall sharpness in the image. Nevertheless, useful!
iPhone 5: more natural color image, significantly better resolved and overall appealing. Could well pass as a replacement for a digital camera.
Has already been mentioned: the display has increased. Unfortunately, many well-known apps offer still does not support it, so that you have the top and bottom black bars and must use the old resolution. That will be but increasingly rare to see in a few weeks.
The pixel density of the display is the same, however, the resolution has increased! The contrast has become visibly more intense. However, the promised 40% I think is exaggerated. I tried a comparison here. If you have both devices are adjacent, one can clearly see the differences in contrast with maximum brightness!
The battery capacity has become only slightly larger with about 20 mAh. The battery lasts in my W-Lan operating but considerably longer. The promised service life (!) Reaches the device narrowly despite Push and maximum display brightness. Around 7-8 hours are possible without austerity measures.
Unfortunately, I have already done in 3.5 4 hours. This happens primarily when the connection quality varies greatly, and no Wi-Fi is available. For example, when using the navigation software.

Compared to the previous models, the battery performance but has become better.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S can not use all the features of the new version by the way!
The new Lightning connector is much smaller than the old 30-pin connector. But I see it as neither advantages nor disadvantages. Who had accessories, can continue to use this, but must resort to an adapter, hitting with 20-30 euros. Here Apple creams So once again firmly on what I find very sad, but you can at least assume that this connection will remain unchanged for the next few years.
The new headphones remain unlike the old models with me finally in the ear! But that's it. Really determined they do not sit and who attaches great importance to excellent sound, should resort to high end headphone products. Nevertheless, they are significantly better compared to the old earplugs.
Otherwise, Apple remains as usual minimalist. Besides charger, charging cable and earphones, nothing worth mentioning is included. But this is not a big surprise, I would argue!

If you do not have to look on the money, the unit buys anyway. It's just better than its predecessor. All others should weigh:
I felt the leap from iPhone 4S to the iPhone 5 is not so earth-shattering. Both devices are top products and if you can do without the innovations with a clear conscience, you should save the money!
Who the old iPhone 4 has yet, however, should risk the move! The operating system and any apps running much smoother. The camera is also better to classes. The changes in total interest!
On the iPhone 4, there are many restrictions that iOS 6 could actually offer. So missing a 3D map display, the panorama function of the camera and other useful things.
Who is not afraid of the cost, so should really you!
Coming Apps and firmware updates in the future to bring the older models slowly but surely to their limits.
Therefore, newcomers do likewise yourself a favor, if you pick up the iPhone 5, or at least to the iPhone 4S.
The device receives from me because of the point deduction (see paint material LTE limitations and battery problem) 4 of 5 stars and is subjectively rated the best iPhone, and certainly one of the best smartphones on the market!

Who does not need a new device immediately, should wait a little! The new Windows 8 phones have received excellent reviews in various preliminary tests, especially for their build quality and operating system. So if you have a Mac and 8 toying with the new operating system Windows for the PC, these products should be kept in mind.
I would argue that this is a very big competitor will emerge next to Android soon yet. Cooperation between Windows 8 smartphones and Windows 8 computers will in fact be very interesting and could Apple steal market share! Microsoft has finally made here again something right!
In addition, Samsung brings soon a revised S3 (Samsung Galaxy S3 mini) on the market to be a direct iPhone competitor. The soon to be released Galaxy Note 2 will also make prices tumble.
Maybe not at Apple and the iPhone, but at least for all other devices that yes possibly could also be a viable alternative! :-)
