Customer Review

Can I have the model RCR-2 (7-day alarm, gray display with orange lighting) with the new RCR-22 (from 2013 to the week / weekend alarm, blue display) compare for a few days and am old for the RCR-2 decision. Here come true quite clear: Back to the roots is sometimes but better and the old is not always bad.

The still available RCR-2 proposes the new in many important fields, much was verschlimmbessert the new and partly overloaded. A plus point was always the 7-day alarm, by eliminating thus the RCR-22 is no better or worse than any other conventional clock radios.

Positive points of the RCR-2:

- Very good day or ambient light (bedside lamp) to read LCD display, lighting not required
- At night, completely dark, by pressing the light button, the display illuminates in a pleasant orange-tone, without dazzling.
- Very good radio and radio reception and a beautiful, warm sound
- Rubberized, sensitive volume control without locking points
- Time and date are displayed simultaneously on the display, even the seconds.
- Easy to set up, once you get the trick.
- Wake-up with radio stations favorisiertem (no HWS), volume adjustable volume controls
- Wake with increasing Buzzer (HWS), adjustable volume control dial on the bottom

Advantages of the RCR-2 against the new RCR-22

- 2 x 7 day wake-up program with RCR-2, the new RCR 22, there is only weekday, weekend, every day and Unique
- Better display of the RCR-2. Black numbers on a light gray background can be easily read easier than white to light blue. The blue lighting of the RCR-22 must be extremely dim far down, so it does not bother at night. Only you can not recognize the time then, because the numbers are also dimmed. When you press the light button (or the wake-up), it lights up in bright light blue. Far too bright and not adjustable.
- The settings are working right by clearly any printed button on the front or top of the case, the wake-up times can be set via key press SET and MODE. The new RCR-22 is here based on software control via a menu, not bad, but just different.
- A matter of taste, the housing of the RCR-2. I like the front in silver and the housing in dark gray better than the white front with silver casing of the RCR-22nd

There are also some savings in RCR-2 against the RCR-22, which I did not miss them and not look at a disadvantage:

- The RCR-2 has no RDS. The new station also shows the frequency as to, when pressure on the INFO but briefly station name is displayed. Not bad, because I save the station from eh to order, eg 1Live to 1 WDR2 on 2, etc.
- The volume of Radiowecktons is not firmly set, it will be woken at the preset volume of the volume knob. When RCR-22 you can adjust the radio volume determined in view service. Can we argue about whether this makes sense or not. I put the volume at bedtime just on a volume knob, depending on whether my wife to be with wax or not ;-)
- No HWS (Human Wake System) during radio wake. I compared that and decided for me that a loud nascent radio is useless. HWS is the Buzzer definitely a nice touch and available in two models.
- No auxiliary jack. Who takes his cell phone for listening to music, for there is plenty of models with iPod dock, USB port, etc. This is not the actual idea of the RCR-2.
- The snooze timer is fixed to 5 minutes, the RCR-22 the duration of the menu is adjustable.

I have often read that setting the alarm time the RCR-2 prepares many problems. I can not confirm. The settings are set up, as it is known already for decades of Asian Electronics and clocks (eg Casio) ago. Namely with SET (set, select) and MODE (mode function) keys.

Set alarm for one or more days:
- Press ALARM 1 (or 2) button briefly, the display flashes
- Press SET (set)
- Use the arrow keys to select the time set with the keys 1-7 (Sun-Sat) the desired days
Setting MODE (mode) the alarm mode (off, Buzzer, Radio) -
- With the alarm button 1 (or 2) to confirm. There is a beep and the settings are stored and displayed.
- Ready!

The favorite radio station, which sounded to wake to, can be adjusted also simple.
Select radio station or frequency -
Adjusting the volume on the volume control -
- Press ALARM 1 or 2 and hold for two seconds. There is a beep and the favorite stations is fixed.

All it has now set is displayed if pressed briefly on Clock 1 or 2: alarm time, day, alarm mode, radio frequency.

Anyone who is undecided, I recommend to try both devices. The programming via the software menu is certainly simple, but not necessarily easier and faster than with the old RCR-2.

Tip: It's your choice, nor the RCR-22 (before 2013, with 7-day-view service blue display) to get, let me tell you the features are almost identical to the RCR-2. It is also not menu-driven, but here you get the blue screen which you can not read as well as the orange and could interfere with any night.
