Beautiful historical fresco

Third novel in the series of Matthew Shardlake, "Soveriegn" takes us back to the cruel Henry VIII of England when it is running with all his court for the North whose inhabitants, mostly attached to their Catholic faith, have recently rebelled against him and against the dissolution of the monasteries. Our hunchback lawyer must wait to York, to provide it with the complainants' requests of the city. Accompanied by his faithful Jack Barak, he will therefore stay in a kind of fortified camp, a former monastery precisely where the king and his court will live a few days. Some days that Matthew Shardlake will bind a friendship with a lawyer of York, older than him, a parternelle figure to him, and during which a mysterious enemy attentera several times to his life. Jack let him be seduced by the blonde curls and the base of one of the maids of the Queen.
Through this well-conducted plot, the suspense more effective, CJ Sansom we offer not only a magnificent historical epic but also the characters more lovable. It is exciting to follow the evolution of beliefs and feelings of the two heroes, and finally to discover new characters that we will find elsewhere then in the following two album, "Revelation" and "Heartsone".
