I bought the scanner to bring a lot of official documents in electronic form and to archive and so from time to time an image not scan slides. The standard driver only supports 600 dpi. The scanner but 4800 dpi. To achieve the higher resolution you select when you install the software from the supplied CD NOT "Easy Install" but "Custom Install" and activated "Scan gender" this driver (Twain) supports 4800 dpi. To have to scan in 4800 dpi you can do the following: "Canon MP Navigator EX" Start -> "Photos / Documents (Platen)" Select -> "Use the Scanner Driver" checkbox in the left window below the button "scan" Enable. Now you start a powerful driver and can make a lot more settings there. However, this makes sense only likely for Photo and images that you want to enlarge and print as a poster. I have a document scanned in 4800 dpi, this took more than 300 MB of memory !! The quality at 300 dpi is good, of course, better in 600 dpi then takes almost 3 times the memory. Example: simple text document into 300 dpi from scanning has to be stored in the destination in pdf format lasted 25 seconds with 680 KB. The same document at 600 dpi took almost 60 seconds, and taken 1.56 MP memory. The font at 600 dpi is a bit sharper. But I recommend AutoScan only to documents that are clean who were not folded or cracked together, because there where they were folded appear pink spots. It is therefore better Photo / Document to choose (Platen), then set to "Specify" and "Unsharp Mask" and "Reduce Show-throgh" at 600 dpi, then disappear the pink spots. Of course then lasts from scanning to saving the destination folder for nearly 60 seconds. I have English operating system, therefore the program in English. But it should not be difficult to make the above settings for German version analog.
