Between the Worlds

With "Chain Of Days" already appears the fifteenth album in 1966 Norwegian-born jazz singer Silje Nergaard. The title says it all: like a chain lined up carefully selected pieces from such diverse musical genres such as jazz, folk, pop, Norwegian folk music, country and blues together. A colorful and unusual mix!

Silje Neergaard breathes, whispers, complains, playing with her young, unmistakably clear voice, with melodies, with genres. Your own style always remains unmistakable. Just connects this very personal sounding songs ultimately to form a whole. The result is an emotional fireworks of soft sounds, to which one can get involved needs. Right away catchy choruses, which settle in the ear, you do not come across here. The beauty of the pieces reveals itself to the listener is not necessarily at the first hearing the album. The lyrics for "Chain of Days" were written by her brother Mike McGurk, with whom she worked closely since now 17 years.

The highlight of the album is Morningstemning (morning mood morning hour), the only sung in Norwegian piece for me. Maybe it is because of this title itself particularly at heart: With the support of the choir Gli Scapoli she creates a whole atmosphere. Uniquely, tender and a real face-off tip for all those who discover the Norwegian singer until this album.

Fans of a-ha can look forward: On their second album Silje Neergard was already listening with frontman Morton Harket duet. In Chain of Days with Covert Hunting High and Low the eponymous song from the debut album of the Norwegian pop band from 1985, which it lends its very own unmistakable sound.

All in all an album that convinces by its peace and diversity. An unexcited, absolutely worth listening change between worlds for thought, sinking and dreams.
