So now, but enough of the history - to further my impressions about the Squeezebox Radio:
The decor was quite fast and was very simple: turn on, connect to Wi-Fi and create mysqueezebox.com account - you're set. It now has access to thousands of Internet radio stations from around the world. The menu navigation is done with the big steering wheel that works very accurate and easy. The structure of the menu is clear and very clear. The color display shows while playing a radio station at some additional information such as the song title and the artist. In most cases, the album cover is displayed - a nice feature. The sound is very good, clear and balanced, however, strongly depends on the selected stations and the transmission rate. The box also still has many additional features, including a well-configurable alarm clock and picture viewer.
When At length a Squeezebox, must one be aware that a permanent Internet connection is imperative - is indeed the principle of Internet radios ;-) The Squeezebox is also dependent on the Squeezebox Server from Logitech, which processes the radio station for the box and then streams there. About Squeezebox website to also let some plugins such as a podcast player or a Shoutcast app on the box install - a Facebook client is available. In addition, the favorite channels can be easily sorted and managed.
There are, however, to supply the Squeezebox with music another way. For this you have to install the Logitech Media Server (LMS) on a device on the network (PC, Mac, NAS server), which then takes over the tasks of mysqueezebox.com server. To access the local music library, this solution is imperative. I have the LMS installed on my Synology DiskStation (there is a package for download) to access to the stored on NAS music to get. If I want to hear radio, I make the Squeezebox to the Internet server in order to ensure that the DiskStation can go into standby - a power-saving measure :-)
The Squeezebox can also be controlled conveniently via smartphone or tablet (Android or iOS) with the official controller app - it works flawlessly. If the radio box connected to the mysqueezebox.com server can the app both via 3G (goes also with LTE ;-)) and wireless use. If the box is connected to the local LMS, the connection works only via Wi-Fi.
It is also possible the music box control with an infrared remote control, which must be purchased separately. I used to my Logitech Harmony One, which works without any problems with the radio box from the house.
So far, I could fully convince the Logitech Squeezebox Radio - again a really successful product from Logitech. Already several products by manufacturer (multiple mice, keyboard, Harmony One and the Mini Boombox) and have been until now always been very satisfied with quality and handling.
From me there's a just buy it for the Logitech Squeezebox Radio.
