After studying various comments on the net like "Remember and never buy" I ordered the lens and bother to shoot a test series in which both lenses competed against each other, once in Aperture 5.6, even at f 22, respectively at 100, 200 and 250 focal length.
The result in brief: I keep the lens.
The result in long form: that the more expensive by a factor of 6-7 EF can rotate 100-400 Kringle to the EF-S 55-250 in the focus, of course, is correct. But the EF-S 55-250 does still sharp images, sometimes applying normal amateur standards. And I can confirm that the bokeh is really attractive (nicer than the EF 100-400).
What I could not test, is an alternative in the price range between the two candidates. I can only say: Who must buy on a budget, get with the EF-S 55-250 a solid goods for money, and who can afford it, a "Tele light" in addition to buy professional equipment, is with this ultra-compact lens good tuned for casual snapshots.
So why not 5 stars? Because I have rated the product quality and not price-performance ratio. Which is absolute peak.
