Fox Theatre Atlanta 24-07-81 (Audio CD)

Customer Review

On July 24, 1981 Blackfoot played in the original cast (singer and guitarist Rick Medlocke, guitarist Charlie Hargrett, bassist Greg T. Walker and drummer Jackson "Thunder Foot" Spires) a concert at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, which Live was broadcast on the radio. This live recording is now available in the form of a live CD.
The Blackfoot fans will all the "Highway Song - Live" - album from this band know (contains recordings of concerts of the European tour 1982), which previously was indeed the only live document of the original line-up! Therefore, a comparison of these two live discs is of course attached.
On the "Fox Theatre Atlanta ..." - CD ("FTA"), a total of 12 songs included (Track 11 "radio station's ID" is not a song!).
Of these, the following 6 titles not part of the "Highway Song - Live" ("HSL"): On The Run / I Got A Line On You / Searchin '/ Fox Chase / Too Hard To Handle / Rattlesnake Rock' n 'Roller.
The remaining 6 tracks are played on the "HSL" Gimme Gimme Gimme / Every Man Should Know / Fly Away / Road Fever / Train Train / Highway Song.
Note: The 1982 Live CD ("HSL") contains 4 songs (Good Morning / Dry County / Rolling & Tumbling / Trouble In Mind), which are not on the 1981 live CD ("FTA") with it.
The Set List on the "FTA" is very balanced. It will be played in each 4 songs from the last 3 studio albums the band (Strikes / Tomcattin '/ Marauder). The live sound is absolutely fine (at least no worse than that on the "HSL"). And all tracks are presented much faster, more powerful and more aggressive compared to the studio versions. Medlocke sings the hell out of them and he is clearly the dominant person on stage. The rhythm section (Walker and Spires) leaves no wish unfulfilled and plays solid and tight. And Charlie Hargrett (incidentally, the only musician in the band, which has no indigenous roots) does its job reliably.
I brought in 2009 in my review of the "HSL" CD expressed that there is unfortunately too little live material from the Blackfoot original cast. With the release of "FTA" -Live CD has therefore given me as a sworn Blackfoot fan (since 1976) a huge joy. And very likely lie dormant because further live recordings from the original black feet in the archives of the record company, which maybe are pending in the near future for publication.
Of course, come to me at this Blackfoot live CD only the highest rating (5 Stars) in consideration!
An absolute buy recommendation for all hardware and Southern rockers who are on songs with Drive and class.
