About a month ago 10 already came out a game that the subject here (fun arcade racing game) is very similar: Split / Second.
And I'll say it right at the beginning: Split / Second is a very good game, but Blur proposes direct competitors mainly because of much better multiplayer mode.
The Single Payer is at Blur similarly applied as the competitor.
It has nine sections, which is divided into several races (6 - 8) to complete.
At the end of each section is followed by a boss enemy that has to be defeated in a direct duel.
The centerpiece in Blur are the so-called power-ups.
There are eight of them (mines, lightning, speed boost, etc.). Only if you sent using the power-ups, which are numerous distributed at various distances, you have a chance of winning.
There are around 30 different tracks and 30 different licensed cars (Audi, Renault, etc.)
Up to 20 riders cavort on the routes. There are a plenty of opponents that can beharken.
Various game modes (Race, destruction, control points race, etc.) are offered.
One has to come in the various races in the top three to unlock lights. With these lights you can qualify for the next section.
Also, there are additional tasks that can be used to earn extra lights.
Also you can earn Fan Points. There are more details later in the text.
Most importantly, in addition to the power-ups, is the absolutely brilliant multiplayer mode.
The developer Bizarre Creations, which were best known for the Project Gotham Racing series on the XBOX360, wanted to create an optimal Blur Multiplayer Racing. No more and no less.
That you succeed.
Even as a beginner you will, even if not finished a race in the top three, permanently rewarded.
For launches, curve drifts, jumps etc. you get called Fan Points. These Fanpunkten can unlock better cars and modifications and so improve its ranking.
Up Rank 50 goes. I am currently on rank 10. So there is still plenty to do.
There is even a so-called "driving school". This lobby only Level 1 may - 10 riders to participate. So you can settle in well and has from the outset victory chances.
Now to the technical side of the game:
The graphics are functional. Most are held the race at night or at dusk. Thus, the environment graphics and also the cars themselves have failed not very spectacular.
As you probably had to make restrictions because of the large driver field.
By relatively dark graphics the effects of power-ups come but really good effect.
Because these are displayed beautifully colorful. This is a bit of getting used to, but it looks very spectacular.
The music is quite good. The sound effects are on a 5.1 Sorround system really great. It rumbles and rattles and the surround sound really great.
Finally, a game in which all the boxes have something to do.
Now a few pros and cons of direct competitors:
Blur
+ Power-Ups
+ Sound Effects
+ Multiplayer awesome
+ Up to 20 riders on a route
+ Splitscreen (simultaneously for up to 4 people)
+ Extremely long game, especially through the multiplayer mode
+ Many routes, but
- Are relatively unspectacular
- Around graphics
Split / Second
+ Graphics
+ Total destruction - very impressive
+ New idea
+ Varied routes, but
- Just not enough of them
- Multiplayer mode compared to blur very pale
- Hardly replayability
Who is on Funracer, must probably buy both games. Longer fun is sure to blur.
I'm looking forward to both games on part 2 - as long as they appear (hopefully).
Finally, my review of Blur:
Graphics: 7.5 out of 10
Sound: 8.5 out of 10
Fun: Single Player 87, Multiplayer 93
