His most recent books, "History of the Berbers" and "history of African Myths and manipulations" were self-published. Today it is back with a book of 400 pages published by the Rock.
This beautiful keypad is fully devoted to conflicts on the African continent -5000 BC up to the war in Mali in 2013, this is to say that Bernard Lugan is found to have offer us both a book of history but also of contemporary geopolitics.
Louvrage is divided into four parts:
- War and warlike society Africas davant colonization with well interesting focus on Morocco, the Sahel, Rwanda, Zulu kingdom, Egyptian Mamelukes and the Boer.
- Wars of colonial conquest The putting forward the formation of the army dAfrique for France, the difficulties of the English conquest of South Africas face the Zulus and the Boers but also pushed the German, Italian, and Belgian.
- The wars of the colonial period with the role of Africas during the 1st World War, the "pacification" Moroccan, World War II and the wars of decolonization (Kenya, Algeria, Portuguese Colonies)
- Contemporary wars (1960-2013) represent nearly half of louvrage. All the ViaMichelin conflicts are covered North Africas Sahel, the Horn of Africas Sudan, the African west wars in Zaire / DRC and Rwanda wars of southern Africa. Bernard Lugan dailleurs recalls that in the decade 2000-2010, 70% of decisions Lonu 45M and decisions of the Security Council were devoted to African conflicts.
Bernard Lugan had already delivered a monumental "History of Africas origins to today" to Ellypses editions in 2009 (not yet commented here). His subject here is more focused on specific conflicts that they are internal to or caused Africas / amplified by external interventions to the mainland.
The author firmly sinscrit two approaches that characterize it: First of all, as a disciple worthy of Braudel It is part of the "long days" of history; Then, we propose an analysis based on knowledge of ethnic groups, tribes and African clans. I subscribe to his newsletter "Real lafrique" for over two years and I can only see the regular accuracy of its analysis whether on Africas but also North Africa and the Middle East.
Lafrique beyond the university détude field, passionate author. He has a broad historical control, demographic, economic, political and geopolitical. Cétait essential to engage in such a work. Mission accomplished.
However Jai regret. Louvrage mest appeared as a sum of articles one after another with short explanatory inserts sometimes not always well placed. In fact, this book made me the effect of a Bernard Lugan bringing together the wealth of knowledge and described that it has produced on the subject not necessarily offer us the binder which would have made this book, reference, and for a long time on the wars dAfrique. For illustrative purposes, the book ends on the wars in Southern Africa without any general conclusion and that is a shame.
Despite this criticism, I can only recommend warmly, the acquisition of this remarkable book of history for military enthusiasts and lovers of Africas.
