I actually wanted the review to Philips BDP 9700 (bought in early August by Warehouse Deal) write at a later point in time, but because I think the various, modern Jubilee reviews and tests at this time (firmware 3.92) for premature and exaggerated, I have now ever report here on my previous experience.
A comparison was / I had to my PS 3, the Panasonic 500 and the LG 730. The player is on a Yamaha 473 and the LG 55lw650s connected. Now for the BDP 9700th
Positives:
- Brilliant sound output (but with me only under certain conditions, see below)
- Great picture quality in 2D and 3D => Dark Knight Rises, Avatar 3D, Hobbit 3D, Oblivion shine with this player (the picture is vivid, detailed and somewhat intoxicating than the above-mentioned players, but it comes now and then to micro stuttering and the 3D image might involve more depth)
- CD's can be played just fine without turning on the TV at a high level via the analog connection (which was important to me), single title selection via the remote control is possible to display in a stylish display
- Fast reading of discs (CD, BD, DVD)
- Good menu and remote control; Chapter good selection at BD; good, high-resolution still image (good for adjustment)
- Great look of the player-quality housing
Negatives:
- I can not picture and sound (HDMI) output on the Yamaha, as the tone (Bitstream) otherwise every now and then turns off (PCM works). I close the sound separately on the Yamaha, the image directly to the TV to work both flawlessly. However, only then, after I turned off the Easy Link function ....
- So good the image is, the Mikroruckler tarnish the overall impression => very bad (after all: the support promises an improvement in the next update => hope dies last ;-)), the 3D image is very sharp and detailed, but could be plastic, or greater depth have (=> the other players play the films of liquid ab)
- BD-Live is not running (but not as important to me)
- Super lean instructions, not even the possible optimizations are discussed; not all optimizations tap without saying ...
- More settings of the outputs for a variety of media would be desirable
Conclusion: at the time to put in a Blu-ray player, which constitutes a "eggs Wollmilchsau", seems to be impossible in the range up to 400 euros. The BDP 9700 has over the above competitors in my opinion, "the nose" very slightly forward. The possibility also CD's to be very strong play, the quality housing and the great picture and sound quality to speak for him. The stuttering and the comparatively high price, and scheinare, at least for me remaining compatibility issues with other hifi products (bad HDMI Control ???) dampen the joy considerably. Therefore, "only" 4 stars. Should Philips create the next update at least to eliminate the stuttering, I'm going to "grab it" still a star (Unintelligible remains, however, why Philips, after all, already months some before, such an unfinished product brought on the market that now Step by step, tedious, and improved a bit needs to be improved. That's what I knew until now only by the one or other computer game .....)
