There are on the market Docking Stations, where you can test hard drives, without the cumbersome to wire. But apparently they are not suitable for continuous use, as I was reading in the reviews.
A big plus of this ICY BOX is that an FP was read, which, as she was installed in the PC, not recognized (Win7, computer less than two years old). I was able to save with the ICY BOX much data yet to another disk! On the FP were to test using the test program from Western Digital DLGDIAG: "too many bad sectors" available. The rescue of these data was so important that the shortcomings of this instrument - can neglect - from this point.
The defects are the cable:
The external connectors on the case are quite loose, and the cables themselves are too short, for example, the heavy power adapter in the balance depends on the cable from the table, so that the plug jammed at the Icy Box's inside so you need the power supply on Laying the table, but then the power cord is not sufficient to the next outlet. These problems I had not yet by any external FP.
Worse are the internal connections. On the delicate, loosely attached board the existing connector go is very difficult to plug. Even more difficult then pulling out! A SATA-FP I had to think up the best connection capability once, so I can plug in the very short cable pieces so to ensure that the FP fits into the case. With sorrow and distress I got the top of the box to be. Finally, if you want to install an IDE-FP because that is even more difficult: the existing broad and short cable is so bulky that you do not get the lid on the housing (perhaps risking with a little violence ", but I did not)
So this box is probably to install one! HDD suitable, but not for the easy exchange of hard drives. In addition, the internal connections are firmly in that the plug barely elicits. One has to be lucky if the FP is installed without damaging the PCB and the cover it is.
