But where did the messiah?

X-MEN: THE WAR OF THE MESSIAH (Album)

Customer Review

This collection includes the episodes of the series "Cable (Vol.2)" # 11 to 15 episodes of the series "X-Force" # 14-16 and the one-shot "X-Force / Cable: Messiah War 1 "and" A Girl Called Hope ".
The set was written by screenwriters Craig Kyle and Yost Christ Duane Swierczynski. The imaging was performed by Ariel Olivetti for episodes of "Cable" and Clayton Crain for those "X-Force". Some passages visually ugly elsewhere, were designed by Jamie McKelvie and Steve Dillon. The one-shot "X-Force / Cable: Messiah War 1" is the work of artist Mike Choi and Sonia oBack colorist.
All these episodes were originally published in 2009.

"War of the Messiah" is a crossover released on both sets "Cable" and "X-Force". Sold as did Panini Comics editions, you'd swear that this is the result of the collection X-Men: The messiah complex. It is unfortunately not that simple.
"Complex Messiah" was a crossover published on the following four series: "X-Men," "Uncanny X-Men," "New X-Men" and "X-factor". Or none that can be found in "The War of the Messiah."
Further east, "War of the Messiah" takes its roots largely in the first ten episodes of the series "Cable". Well, it seems that it is very bad, but in any case this is where the story of the hunt for "Cable & Hope" through the future begins. Do not hesitate to read reviews of the friend presence VO Cable collections - Volume 1: Messiah War and Cable - Volume 2: Waiting for the End of the World to get an idea of their contents and a summary of these episodes.
Do not hesitate either to read the collection X-Force: Angels and Demons, which met the first eleven episodes of the series "X-Force".

In reality, the problem comes from the Marvel editorial policy that, by dint of multiplying the series, scattered on so many events related stories he is then impossible to assemble them as a homogeneous compilation.
And above all, the problem comes from the collection "deluxe" of VF Panini Comics editor who realizes an absolutely unbeatable putassier work. It does not reissued the first episodes of "Cable", it can be understood. But at least they insert at the beginning of a substantial editorial collection, with a summary of the situation, plugs for the least known characters and historical publications prior to the compilation. Chance, because apart from a very brief summary ... we go immediately to the first episode, which is not a "first episode" since this is the continuation of the series "Cable"!
Worse still. While it is a tradition in comics to place the beginning of the episode original cover of said episode, the Franco-Italian publisher prefers to place the book in the end covers, aligned one after the other as a " bonus. " So, it becomes impossible to know where one episode ends and the next begins. Can also, if one is not knowledgeable, know who wrote such an episode or drawn another.
The lay reader finds herself reading a story without beginning or end, edited brutally, without any respect for the reader. All for the modest sum of nearly 30 euros! A lamentable editorial work.

As for the crossover itself, I admit I closed the book with a sense of very big disappointment. While "Messiah Complex" was a breathless narrative strong concept, with the promise of a lyrical and wild result, we are left here with a series of preposterous adventures. The exile of "Cable" and its protected, pursued through the future by "Bishop", thus becomes a pretext to illustrate a stop action in apocalyptic future background. The principle of time travel has no meaning, the characters collide in a hubbub absolutely indigestible and incomprehensible to the casual reader.
In terms of fitness, we can not say that it is unpleasant. Ariel Olivetti and Clayton Crain, both followers of the "all-infographic" are directors virtuosos image. The staging is spectacular. But the question still where are the promises of this great history of "messiah" in the great mythology of mutants of the Marvel Universe, perfect parable of racism and the fight for the right to be different ...
Hopefully these events will find a conclusion more elaborate in X-Men return of the Messiah, the last part of this "trilogy" published by Panini Comics ...
