+ Beautiful display, less reflection than the normal Mac Book Pro.
+ Slim and light, especially if you are frequently on the go.
Contra
- Extortionate! You pay for an SSD twice of what you pay for otherwise. And the subsequent upgrading is in this device does not (at least not without technical assistance) possible.
- In a direct comparison with the normal Mac Pro without Retina brilliance is not great. I well remember the huge difference between the iPhone 3 and iPhone 4 S with the Retina display. Since it was worth it, here at Mac Book Retina however, one can not just talk of considerable progress in my view. Maybe was and is the old Mac Pro already without Retina good enough.
- Pronounced's disappointing battery life of the MBP Retina. Whoever speaks of 7 hours, it first has to deceive honest to me. I made the following experience: When video converting the battery has held for about 2.5 hours in normal work almost 4 hours. The MBP Retina battery can, however, (as it were, in return) charge much faster. It is - it seems to me - fill up fast, but just as quickly again empty. This was very disappointing for me.
- Incomprehensible has been my experience that the device suddenly became extremely slow in parallel tasks to be completed. An example: The device should copy about 25GB. While this work is running, you want the trash, which contains about 10 GB garbage emptied. Reaction of the MBP Retina: It remains nearly stationary, running barely, takes forever (10 times as long, 20 times as long, incomprehensible and mysterious way!). I have seen similar, if I gave a second copy job during copying, so again was 15 GB for copying. Although MBP Retina showed two small windows with the well-known blue bar, but they simply did not progress. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong here me? I'm not a beginner, but this is something I have experienced so far in any computer. 8GB of RAM should be enough but for those Lapalien.
With a heavy heart I returned the pretty device. What to do? Reluctantly, I ordered the predecessor model: Mac Pro 2.3GHz mid-2012 price difference in 1000, - Euro. Now my heal Apple world came back in order. Parallel operations in which retina of Ferrari switch to Tracker ... it was no more talk now. Of the 1000 - Euro price difference, I invested 430, - for a 500 SSD and 8 MB RAM - and I now have a raging devil machine that satisfies me in every respect. The speed is exhilarating, and leaves nothing to be desired. The battery lasts and lasts, as I'm used to it from Apple computers.
In conclusion: I have high respect for the ingenuity of Apple engineers. That's why I think I've caught a Monday model. I am very excited about the experience of other internal reviewer and hope that I was wrong in everything. Because seized mistakes are the best insights!
