Have the HP server as a replacement for my two NAS systems and a Linux machine bought. It will be powered by Debian Weezy and an additional KVM card. This part is just great. I have the server in a locked glass door rack stand - up there where previously stood a NAS. At times I had in the NAS server enclosure almost always a temperature around 33-40 ° C. Since there have been incidents times that of also standing in the rack Windows machine because of overheating ausschaltete itself - with open glass door and external fan for ventilation of the cabinet. Now with the HP server I have a temperature of 29-30 ° C with the door closed and without a fan! Already alone this fact ensures peace in the rack, because just go no more fan for maximum performance.
Installing Debian Weezy was seamless. The server will be powered by a software Raid 10 and just runs. The additionally inserted KVM card ensures that at any time I can access on the move to the device - even if it's from. Wake on LAN and KVM console via Java applet included as well as the display of temperatures and the fan speed.
The assembly of the server, incidentally, was also an exciting thing. So HP provides with even the tool (Torx Allen) in the cover of the door, which is required to pull out the motherboard, so you can plug in the KVM card. Even with my thick fingers, it was no great difficulty to pull the plug on the board and connect it again. However, I would have liked a few more cm cable at one or the other.
